I see a bunch every couple of weeks when i drive thru there on my way to CA.

Got a nice one last year (35.75" bull during depredation hunt) and should be back from the Taxidermist soon.

Are you applying?

Its a glassing hunt. Get elevation and glass. Suprisingly they blend in well. On that hunt the area looks flat but there are lots of arroyos to stalk in to get close.
Hunt hard and be patient and you will get one.

Is it better to stay out in the flats or are there oryx in the mountainous area to the east? Is there any standing water, and are oryx like antelope in that they eventually come to water during the day?

You see them in both areas. However with elevation you can glass down into the flats and see them 1-2 miles out and then plan from there.
I am sure there is water out there but i would not count on hunting off of it.
Cover lots of ground and glass.

Paul,

What do you think about the Armendaris? I am just about ready to book an Oryx hunt there. I blew my wad at Rhodes Canyon 2 yrs ago.

I just applied and if I draw perhaps I could learn from your mistakes.

I do not know much about the Armendaris Ranch but I would assume it would be a good hunt.

Luckily living about 1.5 hours away from this range (WSM Rhodes Stallion) i can apply for a depredation and if i draw it is just as good or better than the once in a life time hunt. I drew it last year and i cant say enuf about how helpful the federal fish and wildlife people were.

If that is an option for you i would recomend it (the depredation hunt that is).

If I where you I would look at the Mcgregor Range hunt. It is only two days but I have seen some exceptional bulls over there and to my knowledge it has never been hunted. With only two days to hunt and the hunt taking place on McGregor Range I think they are going to run the hunt similar to the life time hunts but according to the proclamation it is a depredation hunt.

otherwise try off for population reduction hunt...save money than goin to Armendaris ranch...I don't recall how much for hunt? i do know buffallo hunt cost $900.00

i hope to pull off range oryx huntin...since have been on R.C. and Stallion range several time with good success...

I will let you know, I was lucky enough to draw a depridation tag on McGregor for Jan of '08. There were only 25 drawn. Looking forward to it.
