Just an FYI:

I'm using a Concord Eye-Q camera which operates off of (2) AA batteries (3 volts)

I wanted to use 1 lantern battery to power everything (6 volts).

I got brave, and hooked the Concord up to 6 volts. The camera appeared to be turning on for less than 1 second, then went dead. I thought, now I did it! I disconnected the 6 volt, replaced it with the original batteries, and away it went! It must have some over-voltage protection. It wouldn't run, but I didn't let the smoke out either!

Now the cam is back to normal, works great. I guess I got lucky.

Intersting choice in a digital camera. Do you keep it powered all the time? Looks like you need about a 1 minute refresh circuit to do that. If now how long does it take you to power the camera up?

The jury is still out on leave it on or power it up when needed. I'm afraid it will take too long to power up, then take pic. I'm going to try it both ways, and base my decision on that. If I'm lucky, it will go out in the woods this weekend.

I wonder how long you can keep it powered up? I saw the specs on the camera and it said it went into a self power-down mode after 60 seconds of no use. I agree that powering the camera up from a power down state will take a lot of time. It's worth some testing to see how long you can keep the thing running. Good luck with it.
