How many times have we all found ourselves in that very situation, headed back to the truck or camp, thinking that tomorrow will be better then POW!!! THERE THEY ARE!! Great job and thank you for sharing. And kudos to your wife for sharing your passion. While mine does not hunt with me she lets me go as often as I like. Women like them are a special breed.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. I love showing my wife all the nice words you all have said. It helps to reinforce the comradery and positive attitudes among hunters that I'm always talking with her about. Needless to say, I couldn't be more happy to have her as my wife and my hunting partner. My brother was always my hunting partner until wedding bells were heard, then he found himself a new best friend. ;-) Luckily I was able to find a woman that replaced him as a great person to be with in the field, hunting and fishing. But I certainly do miss hunting with him as much as we used to.

Aaron R: We were on the south side.

MJB: Was that this weekend that you were heading up to Tejon, or next weekend (13th and 14th)? If this weekend, how'd you do? Any story's? We may head back up next weekend for the flowers and some coyote calling. Last weekend the flowers looked like they were all on the verge of exploding as only the Tejon wildflowers can.

Sancho: Whitney just took her hunter safety course about 3 weeks ago with my brother, Jaehunt's, wife. I gave her the opportunity to shoot this pig but she passed wanting me to get the first of the year. Also, this is all pretty new to her, so she's still learning the many emotions and ethics that are involved with hunting. As you can see in that pic, my shot was a little behind where I would have liked, the pig fell immediately but was still alive squealing for a few seconds until I ran up to it and put a handgun round into his head. When I turned around and ran back to Whitney cheering she stood there with tears in her eyes. She didn't like seeing it squeal like that after I shot it. After I gave her a hug and we sat with the pig and said a little prayer, she was over the tears and couldn't wait to get it to the butcher (as you can see from the joy in her pic)! I understand how it made her feel, I've been overwhelmed with emotion on a previous pig hunt also. I just explained to her that those emotions are part of being a human and are entirely acceptable when taking somethings life. She told me the other night that she wants to go to the range and shoot my .257 and get comfortable, and maybe the next pig will be hers.

Chirohunter: This is WAY better than just shooting them with my camera. Needless to say, I was beginning to wonder if photo shoots were the only type of shooting I was going to get this season!

Bwana: Whitney actually put that oval spotlight on the bobcat picture. She's still sleeping otherwise I'd ask, but since she's in marketing and loves adobe photo shop, then I'm sure its one of the tools in that program.
PS I'll make sure to tell her she's got a big fan on here

Again, thanks guys for looking and all the nice things you've said. Although he wasn't a giant, we've got incredible memories and wonderful protein to be thankful for. Wishing you all success in your hunts this year and try to take out someone that you would never think would want to go.

Cheers!

So lucky to have your woman hunt with you. That was a really good story and those pictures bring back some great memories of that place. I really can't afford to get there again until next year on a family pass. Love that place. Nice pig.

I wanted to chime in and also say congrats. Let Whitney know that if she didn't shed a tear weather it be for happiness or the taking of the life then she probably wouldn't make a good ethical hunter. It's important to represent well and I'm sure after my short time meeting your brother and parents that your teaching her right. Congrats again.

Congrats on the nice pig! Sounds like you guys worked hard for it, those are the best ones! My wife hunts we me also and we always have a great time. Taking her hunting for the first time was the smartest thing I've ever done!
