One of the fellows from another forum suggested I stop by. This is what I posted there.

All right guys, I need help... First I got to let you know this is an emotional thing here...
A year ago, my father in-law passed, I had more respect for that man than any other, including my own father, just to put a perspective on this..
I started helping care for him for many years after his first stroke. I was the one that assisted him on his last days with us as well. I want to say about 10-12 years.
During my hunting seasons, he would give me terrible harassing for not killing any thing, and he always wanted me to bring him a little piggy... I never went out for the working part of hunting, just the joy of being out.
Here is my quest for help, last year I decided to dedicate a pig hunt for the month of February to him, and have not had the courage to do any thing about this.. Too much pain, if you understand what I am going through great, if not please bear with me. I have yet to deal with his passing, and this is making me feel things I refused to deal with.
I am in the Sacramento area, and have a couple of thoughts of where, but nothing for sure.
Any help would be wonderful.

Thanks, I appreciate your time and ideas.

Mauser,
It took a lot of courage to bear your grief on your first post here at JHO. Hopefully some of the Sac area locals will chime in and help you out. Other than that, do a search on pig hunting and you will no doubt get a million or so returns on that subject. There are so many questions that need to be answered. Do you hunt with bow/pistol/rifle/shotgun? Are you looking for a guided hunt or public land? Do you plan on hunting alone or with a group? What about dogs? How far are you willing to travel? etc....................

Welcome to Jesses by the way!

I was a little foggy this morning..
Was not thinking of any thing but fulfilling a promise I made. I know, sounds a bit dumb.
Any way, about your questions..

There would be a couple of my friends joining me, one is disabled, would require atv access. Not really looking for a guided hunt, just a direction to start a new tradition. We would be using rifles and or handguns. But mostly just walking, and breathing. Maybe even take a little piggy.

I was thinking of heading up north to Indian Valley Reservoir. I was told I would have to use dogs there. Like I said before, I am not familiar with the area. So if there is a better area, I am open...

PIGIG
I am open for any suggestions, so I will PM you...

Thanks guys..

There is also a small section of BLM land to the rightside of the road out of Maxwell on the rd to Stoneyford Res. There is also the area at Indian Valley Res on Spanish Ridge Rd.
Good Luck In Your Quest.

When I lived in Sac I used to hunt Indian Valley and also had good luck in Williams the road from Indian Valley Reservoir. Only problem was the public land broght out a lot of hunters.
