I happened to catch the last 30 minutes of a documentary on wild pigs in Georgia last night on Animal Planet. It showed how the place is being overrun by pigs. People were shooting them at night, trapping them and so forth. Seeing the many pigs running across my tv got me pumped up. I almost grabbed my 30.06 and point to one on my tv LOL. J/K. Anyhow, the show is saying that we are living in a pig world and in a few years, the whole place could be overtaken by pigs. They even mentioned how the problem is spreading to CA. But, I say it's spreading my arse, because I don't see any on public land. Private lands getting my $$$ to shoot pigs will never be on my list of things to do. Seeing that many pig in GA almost makes me want to hop on the next plane out just to get some action. Heck, I think that'll be worth it....instead of paying over $600 for a guided hunt in CA. People are always telling me that CA is overrun with pigs and no body wants those wild pigs roaming their properties. Well, here's what I say to that situation.....if it's such a nuisance for you to see pigs destroy your property then why not just open it up to the public hunters to solve your problem. In return, we get rid of the problem. Hunters will be happy eating the pig and owners will be happy to have the pig problem resolved. It's a win, win situation for both parties. Does anyone else agree?

.. saw the same show...

Definitely was amazing to see the numbers in GA. Certainly sounds like a good idea, but as long as money is being made, they'll keep charging to hunt their property.

pmiller is right. There's money in them thar porkers.

And don't let the TV fool you. We've got a pig problem, but it's only the swampy areas. Now a large portion of SE Georgia is swampland (the Okefenokee swamp), but we also have mountains in N Georgia. I hunt a large patch of planted pines that's privately owned. There are no pigs on it (yet; keeping fingers crossed). The pig problem here is anywhere from 1/2 to a 1 mile of the rivers. The closer you get to the rivers, the thicker the porkers get.

And they're a HUGE nuisance. I don't know a land owner that wouldn't like to be rid of them. When you own land with pigs, you sell the hunting rights. Georgia is native land for Whitetail deer, so when you look for a hunting lease, you're primarily looking at deer; hogs are both a bonus (for shooting) and a nuisance (for food plots and --- GASP --- feeders). Some folks love a hunting camp with hogs; some hate it. Just depends on what you want to hunt. Me? If I'm hunting deer, I don't want hogs on the place. And I don't have the spare cash to pay for a hog hunt.

Totally with you on the CA no public land pigs. Money is right. I am working on private land right now on the Santa Ana river bed in Norco. Crossing my fingers and hoping my uncle come thru.

My GF's ex husband lives in GA. One thing she hates is she moved back her and got rid of him partly cuz of the hunting thing. hahaha she landed me boy did she screw up if I am not at the range, fishing, working on cars I am hunting lol.

He keeps telling me if we come out to visit (she wants me to see Savana) he will take me out and have a BLAST. HOGZILLA was shoot 6 miles from the house they had together.
Maybe I should say lets go?????????

Go to GA, and you'll find exactly the same thing you find here in CA... or in FL, or in SC... and rapidly becoming the case in TX. Landowners aren't just going to open their land to a bunch of armed strangers, especially when plenty of folks are willing to help supplement their incomes by paying to access their land.

I have no problem paying for it. Just living in Orange Country sucks as far as hunting. Everything is a drive and pounding pavement asking is a little tough as far as gas. But yes if you want it it takes money and time no doubt.

As for someone just getting into bigger game I have in a week taken a pig hunt from 8 hours driving and $800 to 1 hour drive and $350. Just gotta talk to people and keep asking. I m on the road for a private land in Norco CA hopefully we will see. Takes time for sure.
