Updated my avatar since the other one isn't working so I want to post to see it. This is Suzie as a pup with a mulie shed. She's now 2.5 years old, and Champ is 7. I'm not the hardcore shed-hunter that my man pred1 is but I try to keep up with him once in awhile. This summer I plan to bring home a pile to add to our collection, start looking for those in April with my summer job in the field, going to be in a good area for sheds.

Nice looking sheds you have found so far. Have you been out lately or did you guys get dumped on pretty good with snow?? I plan on hitting the Saskatchewan bush for 2 weeks in mid april so I hope the snow has melted by then.

Yep the snow hit us hard!

I havn't been out in over a week now because of it. They were hard enough to find before last week's big dump and now, nearly impossible. At least until the wind blows or some melting happens. I looked at this week's forcast and there's even a bit more snow comming and It's supposed to stay below freezing.

Where do you shed hunt in SK? are you guided or do you come up on your own? If you come up on your own don't mind giving you updates to how the shed hunting conditions are. I sure hope the snow is gone by mid april!! That's probably a safe time to schedule a hunt.

Keep in touch!

This will be my 7th year of coming to SK. The last couple years we have been hitting the areas North and west of Saskatoon. But we have checked many areas out all over the province. We just go to our favorite spots anymore, although this year we may look for some new ground for a few days. What general area do you do most of your looking in? North or the South?

I live near Saskatoon and that's where I do the majority of my searching but there good shedding to be had across the province.

I finally got out shedd'n again! It's been a while!

The snow was still deep, but in the last few days it's been warm and windy, The deep fluffy snow from before has now settled and compressed a bit. Although still not great conditions I couldn't put it off any longer.

I strapped on my snowshoes and headed out to one of my best spots. To my surprise the area had been hit hard by other shed hunters on snowmobiles. There were snowmobile trackes everywhere! criss-crossing, up and down the ridges. It was a bit discouraging to say the least.

after about 2 hours I was walking by a sand blowout (for some reason deer seem to key in on sand dunes) and as I walked the ridge, I noticed a small bowl shapped depression on top of the ridge but slightly behind me.

I figured this small little haunt may have been over looked by the snowmobiliers and so I popped my head up over the ridge and there layed one of the biggest typical mule deer sheds I've ever found. I was pumped!

As I got my video camera out and walked a bit closer, I noticed another shed directly behind this one. At first thought it might be the match, but it was too small. These were 2 different sheds from 2 different deer, both fresh, lying only a few feet from one another!

Later on in the day I found a small spike from last year in a sand dune.

3 total for the day, 13 for the year.
