Predator 1's 2006 Shed season

Well, no big number days yet, but I havn't got skunked in a while. The snow is starting to melt now and conditions will be near perfect in a few days if the weather holds (too bad I have to go out of town for work for 2 weeks).

I found a four point mulie after work on wednesday, and yesterday found a basic 4 point with a front kiker and split brow. He's heavy for a little guy. My dog found his second of the year as well (a small 4 point).

This brings my total to 16

Work has been kill'n me! I was away for 2 weeks and was unable to shed hunt. what hurt the most is that the conditions were perfect.

I got home and decided to take a few days off. I went out on thursday to one of my old faithful spots, and had my best day to date in that area, nearly my best day ever!

I searched hard all day and came up with 20!! It was a mixture of mulies and whitetails, some old, some fresh and not too many small ones. All were pretty substantial antlers!

In the bunch was pretty big winter kill skull. One of the antlers was detached from the skull, and the other was starting to break away. Never found one like that before.

I've got 3 solids days of shed hunting booked off work this week as well! I pretty fired up!!

With 16 from before, my total for the year is at 36.

Another successful day! 10 more to add to my total. I matched a couple up from sheds I found earlier in the season, plus a few more new ones.

A couple of the new ones are pretty nice!

nice finds, i wish i could go out and find that many fresh ones in a day. i went out for about 5 hours today and came home with an old 4 point that i found 5 minutes into the day. i did find a duck call and an arrow. and my black lab found a huge rattle snake. it is getting hot arround here and the snakes are out. i killed five rattlers on friday alone. it was over 90 today, and my dog got over heated and puked quite a bit when we got home. i even got a sun burn. hate to say it, but it is about time for me to call it a season and switch to fishing

How do you tell when you find a matching shed when they are not together? Symetrical? looks close etc.?

Holy crap, some of those are really big!! Did you score the skull that you found? How far do you walk in a day to find 10 sheds? ]

With trying to figure out matched sets, usually it's not hard to tell just by the similarities from side to side. I also look at the pedicles if there the same shape and size they are most likely a match.

There are some cases however where all this can be thrown out the window...you know how monther nature is!

I probably walk about 10-15 km total in a full day. I walk real slow, super slow when my spidy senses are tingling! Almost a a still hunter/stalker's pace.
