PYRAMID LAKE OPENING: Pyramid Lake, closed since the end of January by the Angeles National Forest, is set to reopen next Friday, July 2. While the marina and campground will not be open, anglers and recreationists will be able to launch boats and utilize the shoreline areas.
The Forest Service closed Pyramid in January, booting out the concessionaire that had run this facility with distinction for years. Why? Because excessive fire closures at this lake had damaged the concessionaire's cash flow and made his lease payments late. Rather than working with the concessionaire to keep Pyramid open, the USFS closed the lake for the last six months -- bringing in no revenue and keeping the public out. Now, the Forest Service is going to operate the facility, obviously at a reduced service level.
