Hey new member here. I've been doing a lot of hiking/scouting/training my new dog in some of the post burn areas around L.A. (right behind my house). I have seen more quail this year than I can remember in a long time. Looks like a banner year.

Welcome. I've heard that's one of the benefits of a fire. Good luck.

What kind of dog?

Good Rain

We've had some quality rainfall this year. Today included. It should be a good year! Should be a lot of snakes too. Watch out and wear your snake gators or snake boots!

I need to find some places closer to LA. We usually go all the way to AZ and probably pass about a million birds on the way...

We were in FHL pig hunting a month ago and I have never seen so many quail. Of coarse when we go up there for quail there will be pigs everywhere! I would like to find a place closer also, maybe Los Padres NF... or fraser park.

Fraser Park

I am fairly close to Fraser Park. Have you hunted Fraser Park?

No, but around it, My father-in-law did alot according to my wife. It was a long time ago though. I have been in Los Padre's and backside of Gorman near Hungry valley and up 33 along Sespe mostly backpacking and flyfishing. Saw quail but it wasn't during hunting season...

Nick do you use your jagd for retrieving? i have two of them, for pig, badger, and even a stubborn bull there good but never could get them to retrieve consistently and what they did there wasn't much left.

I have 2 jagds one female that I have had since she was a pup that will retrieve anything from dove to ducks I have not had her on any geese yet but I am sure she would try. The male was a year old when I got him and have not worked with him on birds but he does bring back all the squirles and rabbits that he catches. We use the dogs for hogs on our hunting ranch mostly. The female has a soft mouth and can carry a balloon with out popping it

My jagd is under a year, but like jadgmans, he brings back rabbits and squirrels. haven't shot any birds over him....yet. I am hopeful.
