Hey guys, I'm not sure what the deal is for hunting there for Quail, but tuesday and wednesday I was duck hunting down at Wister on the Salton Sea, and saw many-many Quail!
I wish I would of had saw that many ducks. The wind blew them all out of there. Between the two of us, we only took home 1 pintail, and 1 mallard. Alot of people left early. It was terrible with 60+ winds. I have to take the shotgun apart completely to get all the blow sand out.
Hey WG,
WTO on the ducks! I know what you mean on that wind, it did get nasty. I own a pool cleaning company so I really watch the wind! I'm in my first year hunting and hooked!
Started off with quail and loving it, when I can find them. Can't wait to get into Ducks!, just don't have the budget this year. Anyways how about those quail, could you pm with some info? Where they in wister? or the surrounding areas? Thanks
we got into a couple of small covey in the upper desert two weeks ago. late afternoon only though. I went out in the morning and there were none to be found.
right on, I've hunted a little bit of the Los Padres near Santa Barbara where I live, and am headed up to Los Padres west of Pyramid Lake this Saturday to try a couple of spots...
SOCALKID - any particular areas worth aiming for in the Los Padres from your experience?
Do not go to San Jacinto. Zero quail, zero rabbits in fact didn't even see a lizard in the 4 times we hunted there this season. Kept going back because my Pop and brother used to hunt there, 20 years ago, and do very well. Don't know when it happened but that place is deader than dead.
