That's because you can only use LEAD FREE at FHL and VAFB. There ISN'T a lead free rifled slug, only SABOTS. And only 4 of those are Lead free. Remingiton Copper Solids, Ddupleks, Federal barnes TSX's and Winchester XP3's. That's all you get to work with, so yeah, you're going to hear the samething over and over again. Until someone makes a lead free rifled slug that's on the DFW certified list, it's pointless to run Sabots thru a smoothbore. You'd have better luck with a spear. You can thank the CA legislature and the Ridley-Tree Condor act for that. Hell, If I could use lead sabots, I'd be hitting stuff at 200 yds. Rifled shot guns are just like rifles, you have to find what works and if you only have 4 choices, the gene pool is shallow.Unfortunately a lot of opinions are use what I use. only one person even mentioned how often he may use it. I understand that rifled barrells will out perform a rifled slug or choke. The problem is if you only use it to access particular ta's at FHL than it makes more sense to become proficient with a rifled slug at 80 yards for the two trips per year. 99% of us here are not gun experts because we have limited resources. A gun shop or gunsmith has training on multiple makers and models for many situations. Every time the subject of slugs comes up it is the same answers from the same people that use a particular one. It is a limited gene pool that is unable to to provide variety. if I personally wanted to focus on slug hunting I would look for deer hunting blogs in some of the states that only allow shotguns for hunting. The low numbers of people that exclusively hunt with shotguns and have for decades on here will seriously limit a new person. I try to give them general options so they know whats out there to research.
