Salmon are returning to Central Valley rivers and streams in impressive numbers this fall, restoring hope that years of shortages and fishing closures are over.
Bill Templin, a Trout Unlimited board member, and Mary Tappel wade Miner's Ravine in Roseville to count chinook salmon Friday as part of a volunteer effort. Salmon are returning to Valley streams and rivers in numbers not seen in several years.
A male salmon's carcass found along Miner's Ravine shows a biodegradable tag from volunteer Bill Templin. The species is showing a resurgence.
