Hey guys, I just got a job offer for the SLO area, and was wondering what the hunting is like. Any public land where there is good success rate for deer? How about hog? Duck/pheasant/turkey/other birds? This is actually going to help in my decision to move out that way, since the cost of living is a little bit higher than it is in the valley. Please post some info for me! Thanks guys! Tim

There is good deer hunting on private land(if you know someone) or you can try Camp Roberts or FHL. The Forest is somewhat OK. Been hunting here a long time and things have changed as for private property, but if you have access,go for it. Some really decent bucks here!

I have seen several deer while on the hunt for Hog in the Los Padres National forest East of the town of Pozo. There Is a Ranger station in Pozo, You may be able to get maps from them. Its pretty rough ground to be hiking, but I'm not in the greatest of shape, one of the ones we saw last year almost ran right into us as we were setting up camp. I can check my gps to find out where but we came accross a well/spring that was very full, Didn't ever find any Hogs though and no tags for deer. Hope this helps, Good luck.
