If you use a product like Montreal Seasoning are you cheating?
If you use a can of mushroom soup as a base for a sauce is that cheating?

I do both frequently when I don't feel like investing a bunch of time and since there are only two of us at the dinner table all that really matters is that we like what we cook. The reason I was thinking about this today was a I took a piece of red meat out of the freezer this morning with no real plan. I figured I would make that decision at around dinner time. I just sautéed the meat after cutting it into small pieces and once it was browned I added a can of Mushroom soup. It will simmer for 30 minutes plus or minus and we will serve it over rice or noodles (haven't made that decision yet). I have done this in the past and it has worked well. I just didn't feel like grilling anything today.
People ask what do I do with the venison? My answer is I cook and eat it.

I would say there's no such thing as cheating if you're cooking in your own home. I use premade ingredients, I also make similar things myself. It all depends on what I am cooking and if their is a reason I am cooking (special occasion, holiday, etc.)

Now a couple of years ago a relative sent a box of different seasoning blends like I have never seen or heard of before I thought it was a joke gift but they are legit seasonings. They definitely are high end blends and a couple of them are outstanding.
Its manufactured in Texas. II use my blend all the time but once in awhile I hit my food up with these seasonings for a blast enhancement.
And for anyone looking for something different and pretty check these seasonings out....tra

In order to successfully emphasize the taste of meat and not interrupt it, it is worth adding the following spices to dishes:

• Ginger - has a bright spicy aroma and taste. Pairs well with chicken and pork dishes.

• Turmeric - has a sweetish-bitter taste. It goes best with pork dishes.

• Curry is a savory, fragrant spice that is used to cook meat according to oriental recipes.

• Cloves - has a bright sweetish aroma, it is added to marinate meat.

• Barberry - has a pleasant sweetish-sour taste. Suitable for cooking stews and goulash.

• Garlic is a versatile spice that goes well with any kind of meat.

• Green pepper - has a unique aroma and delicate mild taste. It can be added to dishes in ground form and peas. Pairs well with beef and lamb.

• White pepper - one of the hottest types of pepper, contains a large amount of essential oils in its composition. Best suited to minced meat.

• Pink pepper - has a delicate, even slightly sweet taste. Approaches the bird.

• Black pepper - has a medium spicy taste, you can add it to any kind of meat.

• Chili pepper - has a sharp taste, will be an excellent ingredient for cooking savory dishes.

• Allspice - has a bright spicy aroma. Good for stews.

• Paprika - has a delicate sweet taste, it should be added to the marinade and minced meat.

Responding to old threads is always interesting. We still cook about the same way we always have. We do try some different seasonings from time to time. Like the blend that TRA sent. It worked out well.
Two nights ago, we did another red meat dish that is very popular and one that we serve if we have guests. A simple stir fry using venison round steak cut into small pieces. I brown the meat and remove it from the pan. I then heat the vegetables in the same pan while my wife makes a ginger sauce to add to the mix in the last couple of minutes. Making sure you don't overcook the venison is about the only thing you need to pay attention to. After vegetables and sauce are hot, I add the meat back to the pan. Sometimes we use noodles but usually it goes with rice.

@Brnsvllyjohn, you're absolutely right; revisiting old threads can be a great way to connect and share timeless cooking experiences. Your approach to cooking sounds fantastic, and I'm glad to hear that trying different seasonings has been rewarding. Your description of the venison stir-fry with ginger sauce sounds mouthwatering. It's clear you have a knack for creating delicious meals. If you ever want to introduce a subtle coconut essence to your dishes, consider coconut powder milk. It can be a versatile addition to various recipes and add a delightful coconut flavor to your culinary creations.

Hello Roman Archer. I am interested. I would love to try your blend. How are you? It’s been a long time since I have been on this board. Getting back into doing some southern Calif stuff. I hope all is well and you are doing good!
