One thing to remember when gutting hogs and bears, I've found more arrow broadheads still stuck in the ribs when gutting them than any other animal.

I usally don't run my hand blindly down the chest cavity until I get the guts out and can see what's in there. I got nicked once by a broadhead in a bear the opened my hand up real nice. A few times I've sat back to rest or was watching someone gut a hog and looked over and there is the tip of a bullet or broadhead sticking out of somewhere.

Bayed, I'm going Tues in the am. I'm too confident though as the shot took place close to the property line, and when I saw the hog moving out he showed no signs of hurting.

No Luck Steve, my apologies. My previous post should've read"not confident", just noticed the mistake, sorry. No vultures, no stench, no scent for the dog, zippo. With the lack of stomach matter on the arrow, no blood, no limp, etc... Heck he could still be alive on his way to choppers for all we know. We'll get 'em next time

LOL, I can't comment on your lost Pig. However, the skip work to hunt with mike thing rings true. I took a sick day in 2002 to hunt with mike. We didn't see any hogs but I had a great time.

Steve, did another search all the way to the south west propertyline, as well as the southern line. Nothing to be found, I'm sorry about that. As your host I feel obligated to find your hog. I truly feel he lived a long time and may still be alive today. We'll git 'em next time

Mike, no worries at all, you have done more than you ever needed to. I think it's great that you searched everywhere and didn't find a rotting carcrass. A good sign that he made it. I know how tough those buggars are when you don't hit the heart, lungs, liver or a main artery. Thanks for looking for him again though

I was back at the ranch Tues./Weds. for a hog hunt where BDB stuck and lost a monster. The first evening found me overlooking the same area Steve shot his hog. Sure as sugar, there were five hogs feverishly grazing with heads down 150 yds down and away. To make a long story short, the best open field stalk of my life ended with the worst 33 yd. shot of my life, a hair over his back. Can you spell "rangefinder"? I gotta buy one. I went over and checked the scene of Steve's shot as he retold it, pretty cool.... As I headed back toward camp at too fast a pace, there he was at 10 yds. Another BIG, BAD, BLACK , BOAR

He saw me first and was gone with an extremely intimidating snort/grunt.... I shouldn't tell you all what happened next but.... It was the only place on the ranch where cell service can be found, so I pulled it out in the fading light to make a call. In the same exact spot Steve and I jumped hogs at last light, there were about ten hogs right in front of me. I wanted to throw the dam phone at 'em as they bare assed me high-tailin' it out of there. 2 hours, 15 hogs, one trophy, and nothin' but shame to show for it....
The next morning was uneventful in the same area. Steve, I got a strong wiff of something dead in the area we saw those last hogs running. I circled like a hound dog but could not find anything, it's personal now!! We had a great hunt with one other guy in the party of three seeing hogs as well. I'm ready to pull out the 06 as my freezed is chillin' nothin but shelves

Sounds like you're on 'em, Mike!
Too bad about the missed shot. I broke down and got a set of the rangefinding binoculars this year, but the only time I used them so far was after I already missed a shot... at 18 yards.

Keep at it!

That's awesome Mike, bummer about missing the shot though. Great to see you have soo many hogs running around that place.

So you obviously saw the orange tape where my pig was standing when I shot it. Did you walk down the same approach I did? It's a perfect sneak approach if the hogs are in that little meadow at the bottom and the wind is right.

Don't get too hasty with the '06, you'll stick a big one there
