I spoke with my contact and will be hopefully seeing the president of Greenhead today....Apparently there needs to be some type of bond posted to cover insurance or something like that. Why wouldn't a local CWA chapter sponsor this to keep it free? Their benefit would be potential new members.....

August or Sept at Wister will be a tough draw.
I would support this idea 100%, but have to agree with mcMatt.
Maybe start planning for next year...?

I have a friend who is a board member of the Greenhead Club out near Pine Valley (east SanDiego county). Plenty of space, skeet, trap, 5-stand, and sporting clays courses, good-sized lake, lots of old oak trees, etc. It wouldn't be as cool as the beach, but better than the desert...

I can ask him about using the facilities.

Larry

EDIT: Oops...just saw the posts of others who have contacts with the
Greenhead Club. You can disregard this one....

Makes sense to me. We all made a big push last year to get them new members down here. Who do we call to get them involved.

How about DU?

I talked to Jim Matthews about Turner's and he said they were going to do a Waterflowl days. Sounded like next year.

I really can't see waiting until then.

Greg (Huntducks) is in with CWA. Let's ask him about getting them on board!

Greg?

Can someone cross post this to the Fuge? I'm not sure if the moon is in the right quarter for my log on to work there.

Thanks

OK, the person I was told to contact was a Jim or James Lizzy who is or was the latest president of Greenhead. I was told that he works for the County of San Diego in the same facility's as I do. I looked for him and made some calls but apparently he does not exist here. He didn't even show up on the e-mail list for county employee's. If someone else has a contact, please give it a try.....

Did anyone call Sutherland?

Anyone? Bueller?

I called Joe Weber with San Diego City Lakes to see about having it at Sutherland. Waiting on return call now.

The lady offered that we may be able to do it in Oct when they do their drawing down there.

Like a pitbull with a tire, I'm not letting go till we get this going.

How about Kern NWR on Sept 17th? Waiting on Dave at the refuge to call to see if possible.

Pretty close to L.A, and Bakersfield/Fresno, only problem is the boyz in San DIego have a long drive.

George at CWA Youth Camps is on board. We will need volunteers to run the CWA kids activites.

Emil had offered up some free promotion items from his new promotion business EGrfx.

Looks like Winchester is out of budget for promos.

Working on Kent Steel.

We'll get them onboard for next year.

Jesse, Kern would be great, but I think the 17th is opening day of rifle season in D7 (not that all waterfowlers hunt deer). If it could be a week earlier, I'd be glad to help out any way needed.

EDIT: Actually, I think the 10th is opening day for early mountain quail!

Heck, I'm willing to sacrifice that one.

Jesse,
That might be cool, you'll already have a 100+ waterfowlers there for the lottery, but the facilities are lacking... It's held at the City Lakes office below the San Vicente Dam. Probably enough open space, but not much else. No water for dogs, no shooting, but you'll have waterfowlers. Usually the first Saturday of October...

Thanks,
sdhunter

By the way, I'm 'George from CWA youth camps'.

Tom from CWA fundraising is on board. He's working on the dates to make sure he's not double-booked. He could bring raffles, memberships, etc. to the 'party'.

Almost there. So close but yet so far.

Alright!!! I'm on board (aka Emil)

Can anyone draft a solicitation letter for sponsorship? I can do the layout I just need the verbiage. Most companies want hard copies to take to corporate. I might be jumping the gun here, but it will be the next step after finding a location.

It will make it easier for the JHO members to take a letter to companies for sponsorship.

Jesse, I can get Steave Steavens from APPLEWOOD RETRIEVERS to do a dog training demo if it works out in his schedule. Just let me know and I can run it by him.

Thanks for the help everyone. Still waiting to hear from Dave at Kern and from Joe at Sutherland.

Kern is a long drive for most people in SoCal and that may be why Dave has a tough time getting folks up there for the refuge work.

Sutherland we can't run dogs in the water. San Vincente is limited too.

I think near L.A. would be most central for everyone. Acutally near Palm Springs would help pull some AZ folks even but it's sooooo hot out there in Sept.

Big Bear maybe? Somewhere in the mtns so it's not so dern hot.

What about doing it at Arise's club?? What do you think Jason? Kern won't be much cooler will it?

Isn't there a duck club out at Prado area - not Raahauges ?
