Can you give me some info on the duck calling contest?

Are you going with a “Stuttgart” type contest (like the State and Grasslands Regional)?

Who is judging?

Thanks

Joe Clark

I talked to some people on the duck calling contest. For a pro event we would need to get it sanctioned and that goes through Stuttgart AR and with little time it's probably a no go this year. Next year we can get sanctioned so the pro callers can add it to their schedule.

We CAN have a meat calling contest. Best sounding call for hunting conditions. Make it adult and youth division. Goose and duck catagories.

MouthcallinMatt said he would be one judge. We need several more judges and someone to organize the contest and take the entrants name and ingo down. Volunteers?

So we need to change the flyer too, sorry BD. Just call it a goose and duck calling contest. Also add in a quail calling contest too if everyone thinks that will fly.

Don't forget to lean on the vehicle guys too. Truck dealerships, boat dealerships, 4WD stores, LineX reps, trailer makers, etc. Plenty of room for them to have a booth and bring some boats and vehicles. Hit your local gun shops too. Make sure you drop off flyers even if they don't want to attend the show.

Get the buzzz going.

This is where we need help. Volunteers?

Peeps to do the Dog Lauch contest. Build/make yardage marker and dock or how to use the bank. Maybe a banner company would donate the yardage marker with their logo on it?

Calling contest Point of contact. Person to get the names of the entrants and judges. People can enter the contest the day of the event but we need to have a sign up place and cut off time.

CWA youth stations. Peeps to help run the youth activites that CWA has.

Graphics - BD has it covered.
<

Flyers- Everybody needs to pimp the event with the flyers.

Food? What is being done on this? Any food venders yet? I know Jimmy Rizzo has a catering bidness. Anyone have his current phone number? Let him know we need him for a calling seminar and catering if possible.

As for time scheduling, what should go first? Middle? Last?

Raffle should be last to hold people there I think.

Please speak up to help, we can't do it all.

Most of the ammo/gun companies have spent their money for this year.

I put a call into Pauncho at Environ Metal (Hevi Shot) and Kevin at Howard Com. who reps Winchester. Not much hope on that.

The local Kent rep said he was out too.

Waiting to hear from an old friend at KFRG on do promotion with them. They can bring their yellow KFROG truck and do live broadcast from the event. She owes me.

Jesse...

Did you get the files? Call me if you have any questions (310) 847-0644... I will be away from the computer.

Any one have some webspace I can upload the files to? I can send you the files or I can upload it myself. I can make that an option if it is going to take a little while for the link.

OK... guys!

The flyer is done in a halftone screen so that it will print clear on copiers. To some computers screens it doesn't look clear... but trust me when you go to print it out it will be fine.

When you make copies it should be just right on the normal settings on a copier. Print on light color paper (astro bright would be best... white is just too plain), so it attracts more attention.

Stearns/MadDog Gear is on board with some items for the raffle and contest prize. Also got AP at All Predator Calls in Tucson to add some items.

EMails going out tonight to Kolpin, (Final Approach and Featherflex), Ameristep, Primos.

JJ Lares said it ws too late for him but he's onboard for next year.

KFROG wants $5000 to $7000 for a promotion campaign. I told them we don't need the full boat and that we had almost nothing for advertsing and Justin said they would see if they can do the promo for free if there isn't a paying client event that Sunday. A maybe it looks like. Also they do free ticket Fridays so we can give away some entry tickets for some on the air love.

With no one stepping up to help except a few already posting here this may not work as it should. I thought we had more people wanting this than the 5 or 6 posting here.

BD, I got the first 3 PDFs but they need to be changed. We need to lose the Turkey tuneup part.

Make the Duck and goose calling contest part just an Adult and youth goose, duck and quail calling contest. No PRo or amatuer stuff.

I tried calling but no answer just now.

I talked to Janet at Prado. There is no electric at the field by the pond for venders. Venders are on their own for power it looks like.

THere are 2 porta-potties at the field. IMO this isn't enough for a couple hundred people but Janet says they have had club events with that many and it worked out. They also have a 3rd restroom at the kennel if needed.

P.A. System. PRado doesn't have one. We need one so if anyone knows a P.A. company that wants to donate one we can sure use it.

Bulldog, I called you about some minor changes in the flyer. No answer so I left a message. You or I can attach theflyer file here so all can download it for printing.

Jesse,

You guys are mentioning calling contests, what kind of money are talking about for the winners, are there going to be 1st thru 3rd. I know mouthcalling matt will judge, do we have a red light for 90 second routine, these are some things to think about to have a calling contest, even a meat calling contest. There has to be some kind of guidelines for it.

Andy, as I told Jesse, I don't have the qualifications to be a judge but if I can make it work I am willing to give it a shot. The contest should be open to anyone and done entirely for fun and exhibition. If there are prizes then fine but I would keep them somewhat modest and there should be no fee for entering. I suggested more of a meat calling type contest because I think that most guys would like to hear what it should sound like in a hunting situation and not an ear piercing drawn out high ball routine. We'll leave that to the experts and for a possible sanctioned event next year.

We need someone who is familiar with judging and knows how to score the contest. Can you do that? Maybe Troy could be a judge but I know that's a long way for him to travel. Maybe setting up a booth for him and selling some calls would make it worthwhile and he could be the lead judge.

I think Matt's right, the first year let's keep the calling contest light. $20 to get in and 90 seconds to do your calling.

Another idea I had was ebberbody is always bragging about their duck kabobs, duck chile, duck stroganoff etc. Well, now it's time to put up. A Waterfowl dish contest. JErky, kabobs, whatever. If you think you make the nummiest waterfowl food man can cook then show up and let us taste it. No entry fee and we'll have prizes for the top 3 like waders, or some other gear.

Karstic, get em. Thanks. We'll probably need at least 4 speakers and a mic setup. I'm guessing a couple hundred feet of cable. I sent you my cell number.

We also could use an MC to do the announcing, play by play. Any wanna be DJs step on up.
