The boys were back out today walking the trails again.I posted several pics yesterday of there recent finds. They went back to the same area hoping to find a match to their earlier finds.

After walking awhile they came across what they thought was a huge deer trail.Followed it along and came upon a deer leg bone and hoof was the only thing left. They said it looked like someone had dragged something through the woods.Just up the path they come across another leg bone.

Up through the woods they see a small pond that they never even knew was there. As they come up to the pond they see antlers sticking up through the water. It was only a couple feet deep. They used sticks to try and move it closer but finally had to get a little wet.

They fished out a whole buck body and head and stuck in his antlers was the head of another buck!!They had to do some twisting and breaking to wind up with just 2 sets of antlers. They are rotten and stinking quite a bit but ohh what a find. They are jammed together but good.

I figure one of the bucks died and the other had to drag him around.Probably had dogs,foxes,coyotes,etc.. driving him crazy. That may be how they wound up in the water.

I have hunted 33 years and have never found nor seen locked up antlers other then in magazines..Needless to say him and his brother are heading out again tomorrow...Way to go guys

That really is the Holy Grail. Two monster bucks locked together. While it is amazing, it's kind of sad. I hope you plan to put in the work and clean up those two skulls. It will be smelly, nasty work, but well worth it. That's a trophy to keep forever. What great sons you have!

Congradulations to your boys. Those are unbelievable.

Think it's about time for those boys to pay some rent and give those horns to dad.

After they clean them up of course.

Thanks guys.Yes we are going to boil the heads and bleach the skulls then mount on a nice plaque. They are tickled to death.A friend of theirs told them to sell them on ebay and the oldest(in pic) said no way-some things are not for sale.I told them it was probably a once in a liftime deal but they said they would find another..

Funny thing is they know enough not to tell anyone where they find thier sheds at..

That last pic - "topside" - is utterly amazing. I may take them boys a couple of years to realize what they just found.

Thanks for sharing that with us.

now that is a find! I have found some nice deer skeletons in the woods while rabbit hunting, but never any that big or locked together. This bow season I found a nice 6 point in about 6 inches of water.

I think it's pretty safe to say that those ARE without question, the find of their lifetimes. How many of us have ever found two locked, ever? We spend a lot of time in the woods as a group...pretty safe to say. Not only that but two magnum adult trophy bucks. You must be in area that has awesome genetics, food and apparently not an excessive amount of pressure or there would not be sheds and dead bucks of that caliber to be found. Just awesome. By the way, DON'T BLEACH THE SKULLS. When you're cooking them off, don't leave them in too long at a time and keep to a low, barely rolling boil. Take them out and hose/scrape periodically. When you're done and want to whiten them go to your wife's hair dresser and get 40% Hydrogen Peroxide gel or creme and coat them with that and rinse, recoat, etc. Overboiling on deer skulls that have been dead a while may loosen the material in the "sutures" that hold the skulls together. Bleach will do likewise and stinks. 40% Hydrogen Peroxide will whiten beautifully, especially if you let em sit in the sun with the peroxide. E-mail me thru the forum if you're unsure and I'll tell you how. Way to go!

Be careful while cleaning it up. I had a friend of mine get cut while cleaning up a skull he put outside for a while and he got a flesh eating bacteria and almost lost his arm. I read in a magazine of another person that had the same thing happen.
Those are some fine racks.

I'm with Shaq...be careful boiling them and use the peroxide. I've done several wild boar and deer heads with the peroxide and it is better than bleach. Not as destructive to the skull.

You can find the creme at any beauty supply store. Make sure to wear gloves. If you don't you'll bleach your hands.

Definately a find of three lifetimes!
<

I agree that it will take them awhile to realize just how rare of a find they got!

I second what Shaq says , use no bleach!

Here is the best skull I have ever found while shed hunting, after I cleaned it up a bit of course. When I tried to remove the skull from the spine, the antlers snapped off, I had to glue them back on!

Pocomoke... That is really cool.. When I was a kid there was an old man in town that found almost the exact same thing. Two monsters had gotten tangled up and fell into a tank and drowned.. I remember the biggest one measured about 24" inside spread.. He had both sets shoulder mounted with the horns locked together... One head is turning to the left and the other turning to the right, so he could put them in a corner of the room on seperate walls(hope that makes sense)... The mounts are located in a friend of mines restaurant back home.. Next time I am down I will try and take a pic to show you. Turned out really awesome!!

Tell your boys great find and keep up the good work!!

that is extremely cool, and is definitely the find of a lifetime, they could send that to North Amercian Whitetail, they had a special issue called Battling bucks a while back and it was all about bucks that got locked in fights they should send in the pics and story in case they ever do another one

AWESOME! What ever you do.....Get them mounted for the boys. I've seen bucks like that mounted to hang in the corner of the room. Make sure when you take them to a taxidermist that you tell him DON'T TAKE THEM APART!

I found a set and took them to be mounted. Taxidermist took them apart to clean them after I told him not to and didn't get them back together. He just kinda layed them on a board and mounted them. I was sick!

Here is a pic.

What an awesome find! I'd give up deer hunting for 5 years to find something like that. A guy that I know that lives in the same town as I do found a couple of monsters locked together in a pond last November. They were a 10 and a 12 pt. that both gross scored in the mid 150's and netted 148+." He was just driving past the pond and saw antlers sticking up out of the water as he went by!

Congrats to your boys, locked bucks are by far my best ever find. Travis the magazine you mentioned has my locked set and a short article I wrote on them. It's under the heading of (smallest locked bucks ever?) I'll dig up the photos and post them. They are tiny. One is a 9 point that has a 9" spread and the 10 point has crossing beams with a 10 inch spread. The both net under 100 inches. I've had many offers to sell them. Tell your boys to hang onto theirs, they will be glad they did.

Here they are. The 9 point is 10 3/8 inside and nets 93 5/8. The 10 point is 9 5/8 inside and nets 96 3/8. They aren't huge, but they are my favorite locked set.
