Success @ Laguna Mtn Today!

Well, I did it. About 15 minutes after 6 am this morning, I shot a 170 pound sow near Laguna Mtn. heading towards thick, nasty cover. I took the shot, sitting next to a tree from 140 yards according to my range-finder. Took me over an hour of searching, but I finally found her in the middle of a poison oak thicket, as my luck would have it (I'm pretty sure I'm going to be scratching everywhere in a few hours. Another hour to drag her back and head back home. Thanks to all who gave me advice about this new area to me and +1 to Live2Hunt especially.

Congrats! I hunted Laguna several times last year and didn't see a pig, let alone get one. Many people go years without scoring a pig on public land (I'm one of those people).

I must say I question your judgement in posting location details. I was going to go to Laguna this weekend since I typically hunt there several times during the winter. Now, I'll most likely be looking for another spot to avoid the crowd.

Thanks and sorry if you don't agree with the "location details" but it would take a lot of searching to get to the area where I was in and I didn't give an exact location. Besides I believe in helping out my fellow hunters with some details, as public land is tough to hunt as it is.

dont you just hate it when people talk crap about giving a spot? in truth where you find animals is usually the hardest place to get to

I do hate it, but can also understand his mindset about not want the spot to get "blown up" but like you said, you still have to put in the effort, it's not like shooting fish in a barrel.

exactly my point most people that get info like that are road hunters anyways cause they wont put the time in to scout

You da man BuckFever!!! Lots of people here on JHO have talked about Laguna Mtn for years, but few have been successful -- and details about the area have been posted here for years also. I fully support your willingness to point out the general areas. If some folks don't want to share information then that's fine they don't have to, but I don't agree with them coming down on someone else that is willing to share info -- unless that person passed on info and told them not to pass it on.

This year I actually emailed some GPS coordinates to a member seeking info about Colorado, and his group all tagged out -- the area is well known and swamped with hunters every year, so it's not a secret at all.

But hell with the negatives, congrat's on a hog well earned, and you should feel mighty proud about scoring a pig on public land, in a tough area that everyone knows exists. You are an elite pig hunter for having scored in that area!!!! Congratgulations!!

Good for you bud. Can we get a step by step popcorn story?.............with GPS? But seriously, were you just sitting there or hiking...elevation, trees, etc?

I hiked to the area and then was just sitting there waiting. If I tell you elevation, then you'll definitely be able to pick out the spot with a decent gps, so sorry about that, but there were a lot of oak trees.

Yeah tell me about it, after that slow start to the season looks like we're doing pretty solid now, especially with Havlat. Need to beat Detroit this week. Thanks again L2H, definitely would not have shot that sow without your help and advice. Thanks again man.
