My 13 year old daughter drew the Surprire Valley Jr. tag this year. She is really excited and driving me nuts. Although I am an elk and deer hunter, I am not familiar with antelope in any way. If anyone is familiar with this area, I would appreciate any info you can pass along. I have tried to contact the local biologist, but he has yet to return any calls. I am also interested in what the road conditions may be like in that general area. Since I live over 800 miles from the area I would like to stay away from driving my 75 ford 4x4 out there if at all possible.

Juniors,
Not only did my daughter (Amanda) draw this tag, but she also drew the j-11 jr deer tag. So don't give up on applying. We old coots need you Jrs. out there to carry on where we leave off. THANKS

Is that you Gator. Talked to you at the gun range Sunday. My daughter really enjoyed talking hunting with all you guys. She's really shooting well. Should be ready for that Lope hunt. I would like to touch base with you on that muzzy hunt. I also have plenty of info on the 9b hunt. I did talk to the game biologist up there today. He had alot of good info. Talk to you later.

Dan,
Congrats on the tag. I have never hunted antelope there but I have been up there for ground squirrels, coyotes, and deer. If you go up to Fort Bidwell and turn to the east, you'll come to a couple lakes. Can't remember the names. You might want to get a good map of the area. I've seen antelope north of the northernmost lake around the Nevada border. I think if you concentrate around those lakes your daughter will have a chance to tag a 'lope. A 4X4 is not required but is nice to have. The roads are not that great. During that time of year though you shouldn't have to deal with snow but there could be some rain. I think you can camp around the lakes. Not really much up there. If you need a hotel there are a couple in Cedarville.

Thanks for the info Nocal. On my map it appears that the lakes you're talking about are the mud lakes and fee res. It looks like B.L.M. so I will definitely check it out. It looks like we will be camping so I'll check out the area around these lakes. Do you have any knowledge of good fishing areas up there.
Gator, thanks again for all the help.

Sounds great. I've never even been in the area so any info. will help. As far as deer hunting goes I'm genarally limited to the Sierras or d-14 when I hunt in Cali. Only because it's such a long drive to No Cal. Hope the 3B scouting goes well.

Captain Dan,

From a fellow Hesperian, welcome to Jessies. I am also taking my daughter on our first antelope hunt. This in AZ though. Where are you guys shooting up around here? Apple Valley? We need to get some work in too. Good luck!

I'm a member at Apple Valley. We are able to shoot out to 300 yards. For myself if I want to shoot further I go out towards Fort Irwin on the B.L.M. land. Let me know how you do in Az. If we really like antelope hunting I have a guy in New Mexico I can hunt with. I'll post how we make out up north.

I went to the Lytle Creek range on Monday for the first time and it was a pleasant experience. We were the only ones there. Did some work with the .300 WSM and was thrilled with the groups at 200 yds. How is A.V. on Saturday mornings as far as the crowd? Our lope hunt is Muzzleloader so I need to get some range time in. Would like to hook up and shoot the bull

Fee's res. it is east of the town of Ft. Bidwell hunt the far side of the lake. also you will see some lopes out by the cinder pit and barrel springs both north of Fee's these are all in the same area maybe 5-6 mile radius.

Good luck

Dan,

I ordered the Size is Everything video on judging pronghorn. If you want to get together and shoot the b.s. one day, we can watch the video also.

Subfan I like A.V. I have been a member for a long time. I shoot a 300 wsm and have taken 1 bull and 2 deer with it (last years buck was aat 385 yards). It groups about 2 1/2 inches at 300 yards. I love it. I handload 180 partition golds with rl-22.

Huntducks, Thanks for the info. I will check it out on the maps. I'm leaving this weekend so perfect timing. Thanks again.

Gator, Talked to Paul's friend Saturday. Gonna hook up next Monday. Thanks again. Will talk to you soon.
