Finally dug out my little pack camera.

I didn't take too many still photos, but I did get this classic of XDhunter and his hog on the back of Petunia.

[attachment=42269:attachment]

Folks, note the sling on XD's arm. This dude is tough! Sure, I helped a little bit, but XD was bulldogging that hog all the way up. Even after I had her hooked to Petunia and dragging her uphill, he was manhandling the pig to clear the trees and brush on the way out.

And just a little scenery... if anyone wonders why I love hunting Tejon so much...

Just got back from my family vacation and my computer is fixed. Congrats to all of you guys who went to Tejon. Great stories and pictures. I am now just hoping I get drawn for a good deer tag but will try pig hunting again next year.

I guess that it's my turn. Kieth and I started out in my secret spot that has been good for 4 pigs in the last 2 years. So close to camp and gaurenteed to produce........... Not a turd in sight. Nary a track, a broken piece of grass, nothing. Away to Tunis with a quick stop at another secret spot with water. There we spot 2 sows with babies. One probably a shooter since the 3 with her are about 40-50lbs and she doesn't look wet. It's 6:30 and time to get serious. Away to another secret spot that I always hunt on Friday evenings with a couple of springs and wallows. (never seen pigs there either) We park, split up and immediately see four pigs at about 400yds on the other side of 15 cows. No matter what direction we go, the cows want to go with us and spook the pigs. We keep going up the hill and when I glass back towards the pickup, there's 4 more pigs walking about 75yds behind the truck but with a destination in mind. It is closing in on 7:45 when I spot about a dozen pigs including a very large boar feeding up hill and away from us. We take off on a trot and hear a truck heading in our direction. It is Ron Geyer, (sp) a guide at Tejon with a couple of clients. He asks if we have pigs spotted and when I say yes, he said that they were moving on. A very classy guy! Speck; Tell him I said thanks this weekend. I killed a sow of about 110lbs field dressed. On Sat. evening we returned to the secret spring that usually has no pigs and Kieth snuck and killed a dry sow of about 125lbs field dressed. We had a wonderful time and I'll let Deadducks fill in what happened to them on Sunday morning. Sure are a bunch of good guys on this hunt......hronk

"Petunia" sure is a cutesy-girlie name........must have a sense of humor(of course coming from Mr. SpeckM) to name it Petunia. I was expecting a War Wagon name like "MadMax" or sum'pin. Anyways I enjoyed thoroughly your war stories from the Tejon "Ham'Basher" weekend. Thanks all you guys for the entertaining hog hunt stories. 'Nuff said.

What a place, it's beautiful. This is my second trip to Tejon, but the first for my cousin Jesse and my 14 year old boy Eric. Friday afternoon we headed out for a drive and decided to stay out and hunt the area I got my hog last year. Eric and I sat under a tree and just watched the afternoon go by, then we saw the first pigs of the weekend troting by at less than 75 yds, momma up front then a gap followed by 3 more 60-70 pounders. I tell Eric to look hard at the gap between the first and second hog, sure enough there are baby heads bouncing up out of the grass so we just sat and watched them go. It was a good experience for him. Not long after, we caught up with cousin Jesse and he spots a hog in the trees, we cut the distance from close to 300 yds to about 120. Now there are 2, Jesse and I both want Eric to get his pig first, but they are still out of range for him, we imposed a 75 yd limit on this trip until he gets more shooting time at longer ranges. While we are messing around trying to figure out how to get Eric a shot one slips away, so now it's up to Jesse to tag the remaining hog. I guess I should let him tell the story from here. Let's just say I didn't get bloody that night.
Saturday we drove around in the morning and hunted the same area as Fri in the evening, we only saw one running pig and it was on the wrong side of a fence. Headed for bed early to the sound of happy hunters home from the hill.
Sunday we decided to explore more of the ranch, we saw lots of deer, a pair of Elk, gopher snakes, hawks, eagles just a ton of animals, but no hogs. As we were packing up to leave the ranch someone asked me if I was going to stay and hunt the evening. I wasn't going to, I had decided to go home, but when I was asked point blank, I couldn't quit. So Eric and I stayed, we hung out all afternoon with Joe, canadagoose, Speck and Jesse of JHO. All great guys by the way and while I'm on the subject, the whole group was great. Lots of help, laughs infoand fun. Hronk, One track, Rancho, Grtwythunter, everyone thanks.
Anyway, Sunday evening we follow Speck for some last chance pork. Eric gets his spot first, then me. Speck goes off with Joe and Canadagoose. This spot has sign all over the place, but what isn't uphill is downhill. After a while I spot a hog with 2 small ones behind, but its a couple of ridges over. I brought my 45/70 on this trip so there will be no 350yd shots so after watching them for a half hour or so I decide if they wont come to me I have to go to them. I hear a shot in the distance and Speck gets on the radio, Canadagoose has connected. Now the pressure is on, but when I get halfway to where I want to be the wind shifts and blows right where I want to go, busted. It's time to head home, it's getting dark and I'm done. About halfway back to the truck I hear snorts, somethings coming my way, it's a pig, not a big one, not even a medium one, he's small, but it's the end of shooting time at the end of the last day. What to do? He went home with me.
Eric had a little excitment of his own, no shooting, but I hope he feelscomfortable enough inthis community to share his experience. If not that, I know he had a great time and we'll see you all at the next one.

Yeah, Chiro...it looks downright benevolent in the daylight.

Not.

In the daylight, you can see just how steep it is. As Canadagoose said when I took him there Saturday, if he'd have seen that place in daylight, I'd have been getting that hog out of there by myself Friday night.

Larry, for those not well-versed in "Looney Tunes", Petunia was Porky Pig's girlfriend... I thought it was sorta appropriate for a pig hunting truck.

Hronk, I'll pass the word to Ron. He'll be taking care of us this weekend.

Finally, Eric...come on with the story. You're among friends here. Glad ya'll had a good time, though. I know it was a bunch of looonnnggg days.

Heres my story and I'm sticking to it.

We arrive at the flying J at 0200 on Friday morning for a little sleep and breakfast with several of the guys. We eat, sign in at the office and now chomping at the bit to start hunting.

We set our camp with Hronk and Keith because me and my buddy Jr like the harrassement from these two guys. Nothing like a bunch of ribbing from your buddies.

We get up high and see two elk. One a very nice 7x5 and a smaller 3x3 just kicking it in the tall grass, both in velvet. We glass across and see hogs feeding on the hill side about 3/4 ways up. We take off and find two vehicles already parked but find a canyon not occupied. We park and start our trek up.

At 8:00 we hear two shots. Now its dark and we walk to the truck and start driving out. We hear two radio tranmissions and find Suzmar (Mark) sitting on the side of the road. Kinda had the look of can you guys help me out.

We help Mark drag a nice hog down a canyon with several blowdowns. Mark had already done most of the hard work by himself. Good job on the hog Mark, and hope the knee is feeling better.

Get back to camp Hronk is cleaning a pig (like always). SURE GLAD HE DOESN'T LIKE SHOOTING THEM ON THE FIRST DAY OF HIS HUNTS. Inside joke. Too bad Hronk can't hunt no more.

Saturday me and Jr go out again glass many canyons and ridges but find no hogs. Get back to camp around noon and Keith has a pig. Great job Keith.

We BBQ some food and Rancho brings us some linguiza sausage from a pig he had shot and it was some of the best I have ever eaten. Thanks Rancho. A few beers later dinner is done at its bed time.

Sunday Hronk takes me out, Keith goes with Jr. Hronk and I find some hogs in the distance and off we go on one of Hronk short treks. If you have never hiked with this guy let me tell you he can flat out move for an OLD guy.

Hronk gets me set up and I pull the trigger at 237. KABAM. No squeeeeel, no jump, no nothing. A few more pigs come up the canyon and the shot is at 250. This time I got em, KABAM. Guess what, no squeeel, no jump no nothing. We check for blood. Nothing.

I am pissed as all get out. We hunt back to the truck and drive a few more canyons and ridges. The plan was to be back at camp around 1130ish to pack up and start home.

I was dissapointed in myself for missing the shot, but had a GREAT TIME meeting several of you guys and hunting with some great dudes. The ranch was great and theres always next time.

Thanks to Phill for setting this up, and to all that attended and provided information to those that did not know where or how to hunt the ranch.

Thanks to Hronk and Keith again for the sharp pain I still feel in my side and back form the several knives you threw at tme. Hronk I think I am comming up when Jr. does at the end of this month. So get ready for a fishing trip.

See you guys next year.

Oh yeah, I checked my gun sights and as I thought, It was all my fault. I just plain missed. I was hoping I could blame it on the gun.

Oh yeah forgot to add that one of them dang buzzworms really put the scare on me.

Walking down one of the canyons about 2-3 feet from a tree, I hear the loud sound of BBBBBBBBBZZZZZZZZZZZ to my right. In one great fluid motion, I scream, jump, leap, and c#@p my pants wihtout getting bit. Look to my right a see about a 3 footer coiled up agains't the tree.

Man that really made me watch where I was putting my feet down. For those of you that will be hunting there soon, the rattlers are out so be warned.

Thanks again to you and Jr. for the help (Was it that obvious that I needed it?). I spoke with Frank yesterday and he said to say hello and gave me the whole epic saga of you and your comeback. (U da man). Hope to get out there and repay you and Jr. someday.

XD - Looking good despite the sling. Why were you riding with Speck? Where's the trusty Nissan Pathfinder?

Powerman - Thanks for sharing the nice story.
