Tejon is nuts!! (IMO)

Dear GOD!! I just saw that Tejon hunting is back up and running. I checked out their website and I almost choked on my breakfast.

$1200 bucks for a friggin pig hunt?!?!?! Who would pay that?!?! That is nuts to me. Hell for that price plus what it costs you to get there on gas and whatnot, you could literally go to Texas and kill as many hogs as you want, even at night with thermal if you wanted. Thats just insane to me to ask that kind of money for a pig.

No offense to anyone who can afford and somehow finds it worth doing one of these hunts. Even if I was filthy rich I wouldn't hunt with these guys purely out of principle. :skeered:

Wild Pig Management Hunts (WPMHs) are the only non-guided hunt offered at Tejon Ranch that does not require a membership. This hunt costs $500 per hunter and is offered on a variety of weekends (dates below); hunts start at 12:00pm on Friday and end at 12:00pm on Sunday with everyone off the Ranch at 4:00pm. Hunters are allowed to camp in designated areas, but must be fully contained or hunters can stay at a nearby hotel. These hunts are for access only and not guaranteed opportunity hunts. All Ranch Rules apply for this hunt (details will be given with acceptance package, basic rules below):

•No lead ammunition is permitted on Tejon Ranch. NO EXCEPTIONS
•No ATVs, motorcycles, quads, or off road vehicles are permitted on Tejon Ranch at any time. NO EXCEPTIONS. Automobiles are allowed.
•Hunters on Tejon Ranch must be at least 12 years old.
•All hunters must have a valid CA hunting License and pig tag
•All Hunters must purchase Hunter's Liability Insurance for $18 per season, details provided in acceptance package.
•All pigs must be weighed in at check stations.
•Non-hunting companions are not allowed.
•Maximum magazine capacity for these hunts is 5 rounds.

SOme people need to do some cyphering. Last time I checked a drive to MO my gas would run near $900, about the same distance for TX. Plane fare is running is just over $400 but then you have rental charges, $400 for a week for something decent. Hmm, stay local and have a guide to shoot a good hawg? To some it makes sense, to others it appears they would complain if you hung em with a new rope. TX scenery vs Tejon views, that's an easy pic with all the game running around Tejon to watch and film. Or as Reidson posted, just do the management hunt on your own with no guide. TO each his own as they say.

Someone is probably willing to pay that. Maybe that might make sense if you live in LA?

However, I can find guides about an hour and a half away for $600. Might be worth it to pay double at Tejon for someone else. Not for me though.

I won one of these 1000.00 at Tejon hunts in a raffle one time and ill tell you what, if i had that kind of money to throw away ( which is who they are aimed at) i would go again. O the hunt cost me $60 in raffle tickets. One on One guide, when we came back from the field there was a New york stake, baked potato, beans, bread, drink, salad ect... ect... more food than you could shake a stick at, 5 star cabin and sleeping accommodations. Pig dragging, cleaning, quartering. Like I said these hunts a targeted for the guys that have the cash to throw around, to bad im not one of them I would go again.

I did get to see a lot of the ranch with the guide so the next time i went on my 300.00 DIY archery hunt i knew where i was going.

The only thing i see different is the 575 semi guided hunt is gone along with the 300.00 archery cost. If im not mistaken, correct me if im wrong but the management hunts were always 500 for rifle or was it 475 o well at least there back up and running. I will miss the 300.00 archery price as i don't own a rifle.

Looks like the price went up a bit but these are the same ol' Tejon "pig-o-rama"/pig management hunts.

I would rather spend that $500 for gas to get to FHL and back for the weekend because the success rate there is soooo much better at 20% compared to Tejon at 60% Plus I would rather drive for hours round trip than spend that time hunting. It's so dirty out there...

If I had the cash I'd spend it in a heart beat to hunt there. Heck I'd pay the 20k for the elk hunt if I had that kind of money. To be able to go out there and see that land and all those animals would be am awesome experience even if I never took a shot.

$1200 with longer drive vs $600 with shorter drive. Yes Tejon guided hunt is too expensive. Depends on where you are. Not everyone lives in LA.

Didn't say anything about the pig o rama. However, 60% chance of pig for $500, longer drive vs 90% chance of pig $600, shorter drive (for me). Again location is important here. Sounds like it is worth it for you.

As far as FHL goes, that is by far the most expensive option, 5-10 trips for maybe one pig

wow. expensive!! but people that complain about pricing usually cant pay the price..i dont have that kinda scratch. jealous of those that do. i would love to hunt that place!! i would be lying if i said i didnt..(sour grapes?)

i have a mini version. i have permission to hunt a nearby property that handles tejon "run-off". still to far for me to go regularly!
