When I left the ranch after the morning hunt today, there was ONE BIG OLE HAWG on ice (not mine darn it!). Some of the guys were going to hunt the afternoon and only a couple hunters were back at the cabin when I left so I don't have any intel on this mornings hunt.

I busted or got busted by a hog on Saturday morning and another on Sauturday evening. The first while I was driving a road and the other while I was hunting a creek. I spent a lot of time glassing but just didn't see 'em. I did however see two bobcats, two bucks and several does. Oh and a skunk and 3 or 4 turkeys.

Ron Gayer, our Tejon Rep was excellent and was trying to get everone on some hogs... This place is overwhelming. It is so huge.

The JHO guys and gal were great. I can't wait to do it again.

Oh, and I know others had some shots but I'll let them tell their stories.

Heres my lil beauty. Wifey named him Van Gough (sp?) for obvious reasons. Figured him in the 230-240# range. More after the sun comes up.

That there is some very cool stuff Q2!!! Congrats to the whole family. You two make a deadly combination. That boar looks like he's been in a few crazy bar fights. Do I see a pinetree in the first photo?

Hey guys,

Well, I'll save ya'll some Speck-ulation and let you know I didn't even draw on a hog this weekend. Saw a bunch, but it simply wasn't happening.

Not that I didn't get close a couple of times. Sneaking down through a bedding area, I had several burst out of a hole under the bush I was standing on...so close it lifted my foot! Unfortunately, that place was so steep and thick, I never even saw the damned things.

Ron took Bob (blloyd) and myself on a little drive Saturday evening, but we kept driving right up on the pigs... tough to get a shot like that with the bow. Finally got out and walked down a ridge-road. We had one HUGE pig in the brush at about 20 yards, right at the edge of a steep drop and totally screened by bushes and limbs. When I first picked it out with the binos, Ron and I both said, "cow." Then the wind shifted and it snorted and spun and all we could do was look at each other. No shot opportunity at all.

Had two more cross the road in front of us as we snuck...but they went across too quickly for an ethical shot. One, about a 140lb boar, stopped about 10 yards into the thicket and stood there stomping and clacking his jaws. Ballsy little guy, but it was so thick we couldn't even see him...much less shoot.

Sunday morning I made a wrong turn going to a spot Ron told me to check out, and ended up watching a big boar walking along the ridgetop where I was supposed to be. Only problem? I was driving down the bottom of Tunis Canyon and he was at the top of Winter's Ridge.

Next time, at least I'll have a little better idea of how to get around there. That lack of familiarity with the North Side and the full moon were probably the biggest factors working against several of us.

It was a great time, regardless, and an awesome bunch of folks. Ron was stellar, as always, and working against that moon he still managed to find hogs. Everybody he took out had a shot opportunity (or more than one in some cases...

) except, of course, me and Blloyd.

Huge congrats to Lori for her first hog (a doozy of a first, too!) and to Dave (Q2Dude) for having her as his life partner. Dave, you're a lucky guy!

They were heading out to push some bedding areas yesterday around 11, but I had to pack up and head home. Been gone too long, and wanted to get back to the family. I have a pretty good idea which NorCal hunter smacked a hog yesterday, but we'll have to wait for the story from the horse's mouth.

I didn't get any stills, but will try to get a little video uploaded later today. I've got a bunch of work to catch up, but will get to it as soon as I can.

Tejon Ranch ROCKS!

Finally, a release from the suspense.

I was hoping for another tale of a stalk-on-all-fours and a kill.

Well, I guess, there will always be next time.

Thanks Speck for another good story.

So who is the other NorCal guy?

Thanks, Beast...

There are several great stories from the weekend. I believe Rusman (I see you lurking) has a tale to tell.
