This bull worked this tree to shreds, all the branches are lying on the ground. How long ago do you think he did it?

You know, it's about sharing, I dig seeing what everyone post, it's like I was there with them a little bit.

This was one of my most difficult hunts ever, not because of the steepness of the mountain, [ which is right at the border for elk, any steeper and you cant get them out ]

I had a few opportunity's at some GIANT BULLS and was unable to seal the deal.

That's really hard on you mentally, you work so hard [ up and hiking before light and back to camp an hour or two after dark, cooking dinner in the dark, get your pack ready for the next day, get some sleep, do it again, and again, and again,.....]

Mentally, I chocked on this hunt, I did every thing right but seal the deal.

Where the elk down in a hell hole? ya.

Was the wind swirling every day and blowing elk out 2 and 3 times a day? ya.

I had 4 & 5 bulls bugling at me at a time, and no one would come in, so, I had to go to them, only to have the wind swirl over and over.

When I did get an opportunity, I blew it, I had an 18yd shot at a 350+ bull, only to have my arrow deflected, frustrating ! you bet.

I would be lying to say it doesn't matter, I had a great hunt, I did, but the challenge of shooting a monster bull with traditional gear raises the difficulty meeter way up.

I thought I was up to the challenge, but this time I came up short.

The rewards of doing it with a recurve or long bow only double or triple my satisfaction.

Why?

Difficulty!

It's harder! It's not just harder it's dame hard!

If you don't believe me, pick one up, shoot the next 3D shoot with it.

It doesn't mean I'm better than you, unless you think I'm better than you!

It doesn't mean I am more of a sportsman than you, unless you think I'm more of a sportsman than you!

It only means, I want more of a challenge, that's it, plane and simple.

I got my A$$ handed to me, over and over, did I wish I had a compound with laser range finder and all the bells and whistles? no!

Why not?

I would have to give up some of my satisfaction if I did that.

The challenge is what it's about, for me.

The reward of keeping it simple, putting more infuses on my hunting ability to get close, than on my ability to shoot long yardages

If I wanted to just kill some thing or fill the freezer [ which is kind of a sore spot right now ] I would dust off the .270 [ which I might do, to help that sore spot get better ]

I got to go right now and ad another bouillon cube to my jet boil, my elk tag is almost ready, another hour or two should do it.
