As I blood trailed him he bedded down and was facing his back trail head was still up, I got to 25 yds and put another one in his chest while he was in his bed, he jumped out and down the hill and I put another one in him.

Looks like you earned that one. Any idea what happened to his rear leg?

Well, I guess that answers my question... You got one... Right on man... Sounds like it was hard earned and well deserved! He is really spindley, great spread on him though. Sounds like you got him still in the rutt??? I saw a nice 4X4 on Sunday, probably a 112-114" buck. He was flehming and still looking a bit but nothing like two weeks ago... Congratulations Dave...

Congrats, That is awesome.

I have a question when bow hunting esp. with a recurve. How long does it take or how many arrows before the deer expires and how far do they travel with a decent placed shot?

Good questions, and the only answer is, it depends,

I assume your a gun hunter, so I'll ask the same question, if I shoot a buck in the butt, or the hip, or a high shoulder, leg or gut etc....

It's the same with a recurve bow, you have to place the arrow where it will kill it the fastest and that's in the lung/hart area.

Sharp broadheads on arrows kill so fast it's scary some times, I'm talking 0 steps, 2,3,5,10, seconds kills.

The way an arrow / broadhead kills is by laceration, as the arrow passes through the vital organs it slices them causing massive hemorrhaging, as soon as the blood pressure hits a low enough Level the animal go's unconscious and will go down, it's not dead yet, but it is hemorrhaging so massively on the inside death is seconds away.

I have shot bucks that went down right where they where standing and no it was not a spine shot which will put them down right there also, usually it takes a few seconds for the blood pressure to drop low enough.

Last year both of my bucks went down in front of me, one went 15yds and the other about 70yds, the first one was a double lung shot at 13yds and the second was about 12yds quartering at me, I hit the left front shoulder and went through the left lung, liver, diaphragm, gut, and exited the right rear leg above the hock.

This buck, the hit was a little high in the left shoulder, it went through the left shoulder blade real close to the joint cutting the left lung, he was mortally wounded, I thought I had more penetration and if I would of, both lungs would of been cut and he would of already been dead when I found him.
because of the lack of penetration, I had to put another arrow in him and I hit him again after that one [ I keep shooting until there down and some times one more after that]

Spindly, he's not that spindly and you hurt my feelings, couldn't you use another word other than spindly, like could use some more mass, LOL

I tried to hold out for a buck like the 4x4 you shot, but it was getting close to eating that tag, so I had to shoot this little SPINDLY 3x3 with eyegurds, please forgive me, I promise, I'll do better next time, you have my word on it

It's time to get serious about that 130+ you've been seeing... and I always forget that you were at 5 yards on your shot... good one... I shot a recurve for the first time yesterday, it was pretty damn cool! You may convert me yet! email me when you get a minute... I have something to tell you... a BIG secret!!! lol...armada@cox.net

I think the wound on the outside shows he injured that leg pretty bad. It looks like a healed broken bone to me too - you get a bulbous calcium growth around the break. Tough sonofagun.

Nice buck btw. KWB strikes again!
