Very small and compact!!!! I am not sure this will stop trespassers. They will see this thing way before it sees them and walk around behind it and it will be gone. At least it is only $2500.

This thing ranks right up there with the "Deer View Mirror"

Some of you may remember a post that I made last year about a very strange man I met just south of the Athens, Ohio area. This guy showed me a wooded area that was just loaded with wireless cameras that he was able to "see" what was happening on his laptop computer. I wonder if this could be what he was up to?

I'm curious what radio band they are using. FRS is free but very short range. GMRS, HAM and commercial business band you would need a FCC license. I don't see any note that you need to get a license so I'm guessing this is a FRS radio transmitter????

Cell phone you would need a number.

There are experimental bands you can get FCC approval to test on but I don't think you could market something using those channels.

Hmmmmmmmmm

These are being made by a company called ATSI - Located in Athens OH - I guess I like the product a little more than you guys. I have met them and seen their manufacturing facility.
They actually manufacture the entire system there - not an "off the shelf" foreign made jobbie, a real american product with real live engineers and everything. (Now there is a concept)
I am sure you guys can at least appreciate that, right?
You guys should really do a little more homework on things before you start throwing stones.
The enclosure is large is so you don't have to visit the camera every freakin day to replace the batteries - I guess some people don't like replacing the battery every week -
Their system uses a Maxstream OEM RF transceiver which Maxstream states a range of up to 10 miles but ATSI did their own testing and found it was more around 1 1/2 usuable range, but I am sure you guys knew that something like that existed right?
If you couldn't tell I own one of these and couldn't have asked for more.. You should check out their other site www.atsi-tester.com and see what else they build (In the USA I might add)
Unfortunately it is often too easy to bash an american company - Ain't America Great

bigtruckmaker... Take it easy!!! Laying the sarcasm on a little thick dont you think?? I think that everyone was simply poking fun at the price tag they put on this puppy!! Most of us take pride in building a good quality cam at the lowest price... I am glad you like the product and glad that it is working out for you, but don't criticize everyone too much for just giving their opinion.. Personally, I don't care if it was made in my own backyard, I am not going to pay $2,000 for it!!!
<

BTW... Welcome to Jesse's!!! You are going to love this website.. Like you have already seen, we are not afraid to express our opinions and EVERYONE is willing to help each other out.. See you around!!!

bigtruckmaker, welcome to the forum. Actually they are not making fun of the product. It has some very good characteristics to the unit. Just a little pricey for the applications that we want to use them for though. We had talked about working up to this point at one time last year so this is not something new for us to look at. We have some great innovators in here that probably could come up with a unit about the same as this one but much cheaper. The charger and transmitter would definitely have to be away from the setup in my opinion to keep from scaring the deer as well as being a standout to anyone that might happen by the setup to try to keep it secure. Great concept in the idea.

The little antennae thing is catching my eye also. Might have to add a "fake" one to mine and put a note on it saying the unit is transmitting a locator signal that I can track anywhere....

The guys here are just having a little fun with the price tag is all, we can't/want spend that amount of money for something like this... or at least I want. If you are taking it the wrong way that is not the intent here at JHO. They are very serious about what they do.

Let us know if we can help you in any way.

Unfortunately, some take your comments to heart and can find it useful to know if what is being put on the forum is fact or fiction - Just wanted to set things straight.
I know the price tag is high on the unit, but you can tell they have put a lot of effort in it solve known issues. Heck just being able to speak with the people who actually are building the product was worth it to me.
They even are releasing a "multi" camera unit due out in 05 which will allow my current version to be upgraded to handle as many cameras as I want (up to 75 cameras!!) and will not charge me to upgrade my current version - just pay for additional cameras. So all the cameras send their pictures back to one base.
For note:
The solar charger can be located anywhere within 15' - It comes with a 15' length of cable.
The software they include (which they also developed) allows you to select what you want stamped on the images: name, company, address, camera location, time, date,TEMP, Picture frequency, Day only pictures, Night only pictures or both and they even allow pictures to be taken in "burst mode" which sets the camera up to burst out frames in sequence - All of these selections can be changed from the base unit. Basically everything you need to do can be performed from the base unit. I can check the signal strength, the battery status of the camera and the base unit all from the base. It appears that they have two highly complex printed circuit boards stuffed to capacity. I am no expert but it looks impressive!

I had 5 Cams stolen last year... Im sure glad it was not 5 of these... I would consider a ryder on my Insurance policy if that were the case...

All in all a great unit, Pricey, But well advanced, packed with features... Its coming to this technolgy in these game cameras, demand for this is there.... To be able to download pictures from the field to a base unit in the comforts of my own home is exciting...

Unfortunately...The price tag has it over my head... 1 of these to 7 380 or p32 setups with slave flash... Hard for me to justify... Now if money was no object I could be lured into trying one.

bigtruckmaker, no problem just wanted to let you know where most of us are with it. We get serious but still like to chuckle a little also. You stay around this bunch a little while you will be laughing... uh I mean working with them too. Just kidding guys!

That software really does sound impressive... now if it was "password" protected so if anybody did get one of them, every time it took a picture it would print your name on the picture.... hmmmmm that would be nice to have on a 35mm cam if you could do that. Neat on a digital as well if it is protect so a stranger couldn't change it without a password.

The other neat feature about the camera is they are dedicated - My camera will only work with my base - so if the camera is stolen there is no way for the thief to use the camera - and the system is "hard coded" with my information from ATSI. So if someone tries to get a base unit from ATSI they have to send in the camera for ATSI to dedicate a base unit to it. When ATSI receives the stolen camera with my contact info they will contact me and ask if I have lost my camera. Even though most would not be dumb enough to try and make it work by sending the camera to the manufacturer. It is nice to know that if they do my contact information is still in the camera. I do get some satisfaction knowing that even if the camera gets stolen there is a really good chance that I will get their picture. I also like the idea that even if I don't get their picture the thief has got something they cannot make work. Wish I could say that about the 3 month old generator I had stolen from my cabin.

I do have my camera system covered under my homeowners policy - because when it is not "horn season" I am using my camera system as a security system which also gets me a break on home owner's insurance. Because I have a "wireless security system"
<
There is alot to be said when you post your property with "wireless security cameras" -

I think that most cameras are stolen because they are detected during the night - Trespasser walks by- flash goes off - and now they "have" to take the camera because they know you have their picture. At least that is my belief plus the fact that most camera systems usually have a pretty nice off the shelf foreign made camera in them which works well as a regular camera. So the thief can at least use the camera when they get home.
After I figured up the cost to develop film (my time included) plus the amount of pictures I couldn't use plus having to replace stolen units that I was sure the reason they were stolen was because of the flash. (I would say coon hunters) I could easily justify the cost of the buckeyecam - I could be wrong in the long run but right now I am very pleased with the unit and probably will get more cameras when they release them.
