sorry for the late post, been on a whirlwind scheduale since the weekend hunt.

I want to first thank Chopper and Tracy and Mike K. for the outstanding hosting of or weekend hunt, it was absoulutley the best!

well after 2 years of missing and drea:prayin :ming of hunting wild:hog chewing::archer green:pigs on Chopper's fantasic ranch again has been on my mind everyday since my last hunt 2 yrs ago and i was very excited to book another weekend goup hunt with him with no hesitation when he anounced his reopening, and it fell nothing short and over exceeded our expectations for the weekend hunt.
saturday morning i joined Chopper, Tracy and Mike for breakfest before we met the rest of the group at safeway, it was great seeing them all again, then after that we hit the store to meet the rest of the group, and it was great to see some previous hunting partners and some new one's for sure. we headed to the ranch or i call it (Home away from Home) for me and once at the lodge >( Chopper's Chalet) at about 2,500 ft. with a awesome clear veiw of all Salinas and Montery valley with total tranquility around you.
i unpacked suited up took some warm up shots and skip the tour and hit the rolling hills to one of my favorite spots the Twin Oaks after 2 hr's of walking it had started to pouring rain real good at that time but i had all the gear for it no problem at all, from there you get a great veiw of the ranch for glassing which i did for 20 min. then i spotted 2 big black hog's grazeing below by the big pond by the old shooting range about a half mile away, so it was on , i made my way down the bulldoze cut's to the flat oak bottoms that funneld towards the field and pond where the hog's were once i got there they had already moved on so i headed down the old grade road hoping they would be rooting along it, within 5 minutes i came around a bend on the trail and froze :skeered: at 40 yard's away from me wast a 275-300 class very mature trophy american rhino :hog chewing: loneboar with his back turned from me rooting hard under an old oak tree, it was pouring rain i had my awesome bass pro's Storm-Tex rain gear on, no issuse with noise, scent or smell, just the wrong movement could blow it all as i stare at this hogs huge ham hock's after 2 years of waiting for this moment.
so i am at 40 yards which is no problem for a confident shot for me, but with the heavy rain and his back turned i knew i could get closer for a gauranteed 30 yard shot:archer green: so step by baby step i creep up behind the boar within 30 yards as he was rooting hard with no regard to me yet, it seemed closer just by his size he was! i was all cool and calm and relaxed and poised for the shot with my bow in hand and my release on the loop in the pooring rain i slowly raise my bow and draw for the shot waiting for him to quarter slightly to slip one in right behind that thick amor plateing for the perfect shot on a hog that size but he turns fully broadside so wasted no time, i was at full:archer green:draw with the pin already on his side and hit the trigger and watch my arrow zing towards the hog :hog chewing:and he reacts to my arrow and jets toward the ravine, i just could not believe what just happend!.................tra

It's been done for years here guys. Some can take the pain and others just pull their hair out. You can tell who's who by the haircuts. I like the blood trail pics ones myself. It's TRA thread and story, he can tell it anyway he wants.

Good to see you're still alive TRA, the search party was mounted up and ready to ride.

I know it's been done for a while, I like it most of the time, well kind of. But with me going to Choppers in a couple weeks, its just harder to deal with :lol bashing sign:

.............i watched my freeking arrow nock end in flight waving a little back in forth as its heading towards the hog and the arrow misses completely behind him and he looks and jets, he didnt want to stay around for a seconed shot attempt thats for sure. i was totaly distrought at what just happend, it was the worst shot at 30 yards in my life on a game animal i missed the mark by 3 ft, and then i figured out what happpend. when i made the shot the string had barley hit my stormtex rain jacket hood elastic bungi cord that tightens the hood was sticking out the side when i took the shot it deflected of its path thats why the tail end of the shaft was waving back in forth in flight.
i am really mad at my :smiley_doh:self because i am a firm believer in trying out all my equipment and clothing when shooting my bow, i always test my stuff out before i hit the field for a hunt and shoot with my bow just to avoid mishaps of catching your string on anything. but this time i did'nt, i had just bought tha rain suit 2 weeks before the hunt and never put it on to shoot with before the hunt cause i was so busy, so i wore it the first time that friday out on the hunt when it rained and ended up blowing the shot of my lifetime on a trophy hog with the string mishap.
so i regrouped myself and started back up the old grade trail following some fresh rooting for till i ran out of sign and headed back to where i had i hog encounter, so about an hour goes by and i get back to the spot i shot at the hog and sneek up the back side of the hill to over look the spot see if the hog came back but nowhere to be seen so i decide to just stand ther still in the rain and just see if the hog would come back threw, after ten minutes of that i see a big head pop out of the revine come out on the trail and start to mill around the area in front of me, it wasnt the same boar :hog chewing:as before but still a good size male around 175-200 range, so now i have to avoid pig fever as i stand perectlly still like a manican and just used my eyes to watch him running around in front of me within 60 yards, thought he was going to just pass threw and side hill it out of there with out getting the chance for a shot but he just circled around and comes down the revine right in front of me to starts rooting under the oak tree within 25 yards of me, he was on alert for sure while rooting he kept looking up with his head and body facing me so i could not draw till he turned his head or body so i just watch being calm and cool, i had fixed my hood bungee cord issue so i know i will avoid the same mistake i made earlier, there was no rush for the shot it was raining hard no scent no noise issues, just cant get caught drawing the bow i know he would jet. he starts to change his angle my opportuneity for shot presents its self i go to draw my :archer green: bow on the boar for a super easy 25 yrd money shot and the hog reacts and.......................................To Be Continued.....tra

LOL, you guys are funny. I know most of the story already, but I'll leave it to TRA to tell :). I think I was the only one who didn't see any pigs :(. What a bummer, nonetheless, it was an adventure just for a chance to hunt at Choppers! Thanks to Chopper and Mike for trying overly hard to put me on pigs.

dkhntr25, if you don't like this thread or threads like it why don't you just skip over them? Your Debbie Downer posts and hijacking are getting old. You're in someone else's house and we expect you to show a little respect for others here.

..............so the hog reacts and just dops and high tails it out there like someone stuck a match under his butt, i stood there distrought again wondering what just happend to made him bug out so quick, i thought maybe a bigger boar was coming in and within 2 minutes after the hog jets i see Dom and Eric come walking down the trail by the tree, so thats what scared the hog off he herd them coming, what great timing on that! its all good.

so within 1 hour i had :bag-on-head:the best 2 opportunities :hog chewing::archer green:eek:n 2 awesome boars, and NADA:smiley_doh:. i knew right there and then if i didnt see another the whole weekend i could not complain at all. i made the most out of it and had the ultimate best time ever hunting wild pig' s with a great group of guy's for sure, i would do it all over again in a hart beat!

the story of my life ( TRA the Piggless Hunter) i don'nt think i will be Brian Q. the Pigman anytime soon:rotflmao:, oh well i am thinking of just being a guide, at least i good at finding the pig's:pig-laughing:.

back to the story..........so basicly the rest of the weekend was a bust for me , but i hunted hard and good and had an awesome time pursueing them cagey wild boars on some awesome property. believe me we ate and drank like kings for sure and had good times and laugh's and great hunting stories to share!

we all had a good time trying to wack ground rats around Chopper's ranch house, its like ground rat city there for sure.

we also got a little bounus hunting and (Thanks) Chopper had Bigworm come over with his dogs show us how he worked with his dogs pursueing wild pigs that was cool expieriance and they help to try and track Doms pig that he shot on the last day of the hunt with a total good pass threw with a rage 3 broadhead, and that hog still dissapeerd in thin air! there was blood to track but eventually that diminshed after 2 hr's of tracking and serching and had to call it a hunt.

a lot of nice hogs seen over the weekend, some shots taken, some misses some hits, so over all it was a great weekend of real good hunting.

i want to thank Ron, Nisan, Dom and Eric and John for sharing with me a memorable wekend of wild pig hunting and hope we can share another hunt again soon and i thank Chopper and Tracy and Mike for everything they did for us and i will be back again for sure! :wavin hello::hog chewing::archer green:............tra

P.S. i had a hard time telling the differance between hog tracks and Nisan's little foot prints at times  .

Ok ,so I have to say that Part tres from Tra was worth it. Great story Tra! Way to keep hunting! In the words of Lt. Dann "life's too short to hunt from a truck so hunt hard!"

TRA, good story...I personally like the suspense while the whole story unfolds. Sorry about the missed opportunities. I kicked myself for almost 2 years after missing 3 easy shots in one day. I'm headed to Deedy's this weekend with my dad and bro. I hope to have my own story on Monday.

thanks guy's, i really enjoy wild pig hunting with a bow, i am addicted and obsessed and when my day comes in it will be one worth really celebrating if i can just get over my blunders! if it was so easy to hunt and kill a pig with a bow i would 'nt do it, it has to be very challenging for me to pursue any game animal with a bow to keep my intrest, until then it's all good!................tra

Pinseeker good luck at Deedy's, and look forward to your wild pig adventure hunting story my friend.............tra
