igs on Chopper's fantasic ranch again has been on my mind everyday since my last hunt 2 yrs ago and i was very excited to book another weekend goup hunt with him with no hesitation when he anounced his reopening, and it fell nothing short and over exceeded our expectations for the weekend hunt.
saturday morning i joined Chopper, Tracy and Mike for breakfest before we met the rest of the group at safeway, it was great seeing them all again, then after that we hit the store to meet the rest of the group, and it was great to see some previous hunting partners and some new one's for sure. we headed to the ranch or i call it (Home away from Home) for me and once at the lodge >( Chopper's Chalet) at about 2,500 ft. with a awesome clear veiw of all Salinas and Montery valley with total tranquility around you.
i unpacked suited up took some warm up shots and skip the tour and hit the rolling hills to one of my favorite spots the Twin Oaks after 2 hr's of walking it had started to pouring rain real good at that time but i had all the gear for it no problem at all, from there you get a great veiw of the ranch for glassing which i did for 20 min. then i spotted 2 big black hog's grazeing below by the big pond by the old shooting range about a half mile away, so it was on , i made my way down the bulldoze cut's to the flat oak bottoms that funneld towards the field and pond where the hog's were once i got there they had already moved on so i headed down the old grade road hoping they would be rooting along it, within 5 minutes i came around a bend on the trail and froze :skeered: at 40 yard's away from me wast a 275-300 class very mature trophy american rhino :hog chewing: loneboar with his back turned from me rooting hard under an old oak tree, it was pouring rain i had my awesome bass pro's Storm-Tex rain gear on, no issuse with noise, scent or smell, just the wrong movement could blow it all as i stare at this hogs huge ham hock's after 2 years of waiting for this moment.
so i am at 40 yards which is no problem for a confident shot for me, but with the heavy rain and his back turned i knew i could get closer for a gauranteed 30 yard shot:archer green: so step by baby step i creep up behind the boar within 30 yards as he was rooting hard with no regard to me yet, it seemed closer just by his size he was! i was all cool and calm and relaxed and poised for the shot with my bow in hand and my release on the loop in the pooring rain i slowly raise my bow and draw for the shot waiting for him to quarter slightly to slip one in right behind that thick amor plateing for the perfect shot on a hog that size but he turns fully broadside so wasted no time, i was at full:archer green:draw with the pin already on his side and hit the trigger and watch my arrow zing towards the hog :hog chewing:and he reacts to my arrow and jets toward the ravine, i just could not believe what just happend!.................tra
