A couple of my sons friends came over to my house the other night and had these two little guys with him. They went to our favorite pig spot and shot at a big boar there. They went to go see if he hit it and he said all hell broke loose. They couldnt find any blodd but there were little piglets and big pigs running all over the place. My friend and his little brother chased them Up a Mountain and caught two. They said they almost died from exhaustion afterwards. Man i wish i was in shape like these guys.

Some of you may wonder this but these are ferral hogs and are not recognized as a game animal in NM. There are no regulations for them and are not even recognized for hunting here.

pualc, I just don't know if I would be able to do the whole Satchmo thing. I think I would have a hard time keeping them as pets. I like to hunt them too much if you know what I mean.

"Favorite pig spot" in New Mexico????? Isn't New Mexico too arid for pigs to thrive???? Or is that up in the high elevations with cool weather and snow melt springs???? Man....these wild pig population is booming all over the U.S..........Iowa has a nascent wild pig population that if left unchecked will blossom into established numbers.
Even Washington state has a wild pig population. Sounds like the answer to the dwindling hunter sport in the U.S. 'Nuff said.

They are not a recognized game animal in NM. Like all pigs they are smart. And like all pigs they are hard to find on public land.
I have shot one up here and have several run ins with them. These pigs are living in an area over 8000 foot elevation.

Coming up is the time of year i like to hunt them.

Great story, I remember trying to run some of them down once. I wasn't succesful as your Boy but the one I was catching up to was about 25lbs and I don't know what I was thinking I would do when I caught him. It just seemed that running him down was the right thing to do at the time. The things young men will do for fun!

About 15 years ago, a freind and i caught 2 piglets. It was almost dark and the reason i caught the one I caught was because it had a white stripe over its shoulders (some hampshire blood in it) and that was all i could see in the dark.
It lead me on one heck of a chase. We both caught one and he raised his up on oatmeal and it got huge. They never could bring themselves to eat it as it became a pet. He finally gave it to a wildlife sanctuary type of place. Mine escaped, I think i would have eaten mine

Yeah we caught this little guy last summer while researching some real estate. We let him go and he ran off with his buddies and Big Momma.

Thats great. It looks like the cat adopted the pig. I bet the dogs in the neighborhood dont give that cat no grief.

That kitten we found in the wild a couple months before the pig so they're growing up together, and the best of friends the cat even sleeping with the pig in her house made from a 55 gallon plastic drum can. Once in a while the cat will jump on the pigs back, and hitch a ride.
