Once again I was forced to throw three trespassers off my property. This time I was in the middle of guiding a man and his son. The son had already gotten his buck (a very semetrical 14 inches, nice heart shaped horns). As we were bring the sons buck back to the house to take care of it, we saw a herd of about 30 antelope about 200 yard from one of our main access roads. I assumed it was a herd that I had been watching all year, consisting of 3 13+ inch and 1 14+ inch bucks. After we took care of the first buck we were going to go see if we couldn't take one of the bucks.
Just as we were getting back in the pick-up to head out again we see this white dodge heading up our access road. By the time we caught up with them, they were 3/4 of a mile in the field, having passed 2 sets of no trespassing signs. They had just gotten even with herd and stopped, I expected to see guns come out. As you can imagin, the herd spooked and ran back 400 yard. I pulled up between them and the herd and told them that this was private property, their comment, "yea, we know, we were going to ask if we could hunt." As I feel my blood pressure rise (my biggest pet peave is people coming on my property without permission), I told them to get down the road. They acted as if I was the a$$hole for kicking these jerks off my property. If our local wardens weren't so lazy I would have called them.
These jerks cost my hunter a chance to take a very respectable 14+ inch buck. I did manage to get the father a decent 13.25 inch buck, but you could tell he was disapointed having missed the chance at the bigger buck.
It is better to ask the landowner before you enter his land if you can hunt, rather then when he pulls up next to you, red-faced, and demands that you get off his property!!!!
