We had a great time in Bishop!
Thursday: Fly-fished the wild trout section and caught a few Browns.
Friday: Float tubed the Pleasant Valley Res. and sleighed the stockers (1 Brown). Bass fished the sanctuary ponds and Fly-fished the Lower Owens (slow due to the rain earlier that day).
Saturday: Fly-fished the Inlet-2 in sub-freezing weather. Caught well over 30 each (including a 3 lb holdover). Fished off Warm Springs Road for some "hot" Brown action and called it at 5:00.
Didn't see a coyote the entire trip.

Looked for you guys at the casino but it was late on Thurs. Fished Convict on the opener in the A.M. the wind and snow was ugly. No boat launch due to white caps. Caught and released limits ,lost a 4-5 lb. rainbow at the shore line with no net ,left in boat on shore. Fished the north shore below the 'Big Tree'. Limits through the thin ice at lake Mary outlet on Sun. Largest 2.5 on the scale . Snowing hard in Mammoth on Mon. so headed for the barn early. May fish again over Memorial weekend . Keep informed.

TROUT ARE JUMPING: Despite chameleon-like weather, yesterday's opening of the mountain trout season in California was outstanding for many, especially in the north end of state.
"I've seen a lot of smiles this year, a lot of happy people," said Steve Vaughn at Vaughn's Sporting Goods in Burney.
"The cold weather slowed down the snow melt and kept rivers just right," said Bill Tate at the Dunsmuir Flyfishing Company.
A network of stream scouts across the state pointed to Shasta and Siskiyou counties as the top spots for the opener: The Pit River at Pit 3 and Pit 4, the Upper Sacramento River from Box Canyon Dam through Dunsmuir, the Fall River from Island Bridge upstream to Indian Hole, Hat Creek in the Castle area,
and to a lesser extent, the McCloud River in the Nature Conservancy section.
In Dunsmuir on the Upper Sacramento River, many anglers had 5-fish limits before 6 a.m., with nightcrawlers the preferred entreaty. In the adjacent Wild Trout Section on the Upper Sac, flyfishers were averaging 6 to 12 fish per rod.
The best fly pattern reported from scouts at many streams was the golden stonefly nymph, best presented along the bottom. Many had their best success when rigging their lines with strike indicators. In the western Sierra, very cold water from high snowmelt in the past week seemed to generally mute the bite, including at the Yuba, Stanislaus, Tuolumne, and American rivers.
The weather provided quite a sideshow. On the Upper Sac, it was sunshiny, cloudy, dry, rainy with hail, calm and windy, all in the course of a few hours.
The overcast turned out to be a plus, with the fish far more spirited than when inhibited by clear water and a bright sun.
