I have a good friend of mine that drew a antelope tag up in lassen,ca . He has a good idea were to go, just by maps :confused-yellow:but if there is anybody out there that can help.... Thanks
Start scouting. The antelope up there kind of hang out in the ranches and you might stand a better chance having access to private property. Call the sporting goods stores in Alturas.
Try the plateau near Fitzhaugh Creek (sp?) off of the highway south of Alturas. Below the plateau is a hay farm. I've only seen big buck pronghorn in the area. The road to the creek has been passable with a 2WD truck but the area off of the road is riddled with large rock and boulders.
Boy, I wish I'd known of this website when the original question was posed. My son had a Lassen 1st period tag, and between scouting and hunting, we spent more than 10 days up there. Saw some nice bucks and he managed to kill this very unusual 15 1/2" buck on the 4th day.
Nice buck... It has some real similarities to the one I shot in Likely Tables zone in 2005... I don't have a picture handy, but I've posted it one this website before...
If any of you guys subscribe to Huntin Fool, check out the article on page 86 about my son's pronghorn hunt. Title is "The Plan C Buck."
Also, check out the huge 85" buck that one of the other hunters killed on opening morning. My son was stalking that buck when the fellow shot it. He's 60 years old, and it was his first pronghorn! He killed it about a mile from his pickup, and was having a hard time dragging it back to his truck, so i walked up there, loaded the buck across my shoulders and carried it back to his truck for him. He let me take some photos since he didn't have a camera, and I got a call from him a couple months later to tell me the offical B&C score.
