I've been shopping at Turners for years and have received about 50% good service, 30% so-so service, and 20% of the time the service is so bad I leave actually beliving they really don't want to be in the busniess of selling guns.

A few years ago I was looking at a Benelli semi-auto shotgun.  The guy at Turners WOULD NOT SHOW IT TO ME.  It was legal (at the time) in KA.  He kept badgering me about it being meant for the police and lowly civilians don't need anything like that.  There wasn't anyone else around at the time and I didn't go back to Turners for a year.

I should have complained or written a letter.  It does appear the service you get is based on the salespeople.  Turners would do well to drill it into their people a little harder that if they don't like selling guns, or don't know one end of a gun from another, they'd be better off at Wally World.

I was thinking that Turners should close maybe 2-3 of there stores and build alarge megastore live a Cabelas or Gander Mountain. That would be great if they would do that. I don't think Cabelas or any other outdoor stores are going to come anytime soon.

I went into chino store on Friday for 9mm sale my buddy was off i'll try back this week.

I did notice there targets were not on the ceiling at the Chino store I don't know if they ever were.

SoCal that guy can say what ever he wants but when he found out I wanted to pull the trigger out came the bolt, that's not my biggest problem with the whole sitution just the way in general I was treated it was like this is it take it or leave it attitude, I think most of all the targets PO me, why would I ever want to point a CF rifle up in the air when i'm trying to get a feel for it, I only point shotgun up unless deer start flying.

Did you ask when the gun comes in can you get your deposit back because your SOL if you can't for at least a handeling or restocking fee, when I buy a new gun I want to look at more then one in the caliber I want, there all different stock fit grain if it's wood, how smooth the action is trigger pull so on, and you might be getting a shelf gun from another store.

I did some shopping this weekend, starting with picking up my new Tikka .338 at the Tuner's in Norwalk.  Service was good again, like it was when I bought the rifle. They had no rings, so I called the Signal Hill store.  Robert there was very helpgul, and asked me to bring the rifle in so he could see if the Weaver bases he had would fit.  (They didn't have the Tikka brand stuff in stock.)   He spent several minutes with me and the rifle, making sure that what they had would work.   I needed some Pyrodex pellets, but they didn't have them, so I went to the Stockade.  There was only one other customer in the store, and the three clerks all asked me if they could help me.  I was surprised, as I hadn't gotten that kind of service there before.   They were very helpful, if not exactly knowledgeable about muzzleloading.

So I had great service at two Turner's stores and the Stockade.  It was nice!

I'm not a big Turner's fan but in fairness to report the good as well as the bad:

I had about 45 minutes to kill in between apointments in Pasadena last Friday.  I went to the Turner's in Pasadena for a look see.  There were a couple of other customers in the store.  The cashier greeted me as I walked in.  The first guy I saw said hi and asked if there was something I was looking for.  As I was looking through the glass case at those nice Kimber CDPs another employee walked up from behind me and asked "which one can I show you".  I wasn't planning on looking but figured I would now.  He unlocked the case, pulled out the right model, checked and opened the action and handed it to me.  He did politely ask me to point at the target up near the ceiling after I pointed to a vacant part of the store with the gun.  It felt a little strange pointing at a 60 degree angle upward (kind of like duck hunting) but it was a reasonable request since he had no idea if I even knew which end of the gun was the dangerous one.

I thanked him, looked at one more, browsed for a couple more minutes when a third employee asked if he could help me with anything.  After than I needed to be leaving, thanked them and headed out.

Not my normal experience with them - granted I normally go to the Reseda store - but much better than normal so worth mentioning.

As easy as it is to get frustrated with them and slam them, we should be pulling for them as we're both on the same side.  Who know, maybe they're reading JHP and trying to make it better...

I'd have to agree with the guys who have dealt with the Norwalk Turners. They are great guys. There is a guy who works there who is really nice. I'm not sure he's still there, but he has been there for a while. His name is Jaime (pronounced Hi-may). For the most part the guys at the Norwalk turners are good guys. I've been to the Signal Hill Turners and they're alright too. There is an "older" guy there. I think he's in his late 50s early 60s who can sound like a jerk, but he really isn't. Just the way he is I guess.

I agree with Frank and others on XCaliber. The guy is really weird. I think he lives in his shop or something

Has anyone ever tried Tuan's in La Puente (not sure where it's at)? I've heard good things about them from a co-worker. I'd like to try them for my next purchase.

The San Bernadino Turners Sucks Big Time... I stop in there coming back from the mountains sometimes and allways leave there Fed up with the total Morons that work there in the Gun department . They are complete Idiots, with attitudes and Ignorance that belong in a Fast food restrant.
For one thing they dont have sh*t for guns in there. This Time I asked to look at a ruger red label overunder , I wanted to feel how loose the action was and look at its Quality compared to a beretta. Well the Dumb*ss Guy behind the counter starts off with some comments trying to make himself appear to be an expert but just proved to me he was a wanna be. When I took the forearm off the shotgun , He got all upset and tells me "Do not to take the gun apart any further , it is not a good thing to do",in a stupid tone of voice like he his talking to a 3 year old child that got in trouble. I handed the gun back to the dope, thinking he wasnt worth wasteing my breath and time on . Felt like telling him he should get a job in a womans purse store.
I think some 4th grade school girls would make better gun department employs for turners than the Idiot ,Nitwits they hire.
I started looking for stap upland hunting vests and ask another guy in the store if they have any ,He says " I dont know ,I dont know anything about hunting or fishing".
I left the store thinking what a waste of time getting off the freeway to stop at Turners.

  Turners: What a Joke....is right

I have run into that quite a bit lately, their trying to push the floor models on to folks. It seems to be fairly recent / all of sudden, so something's going on with that too. Like I say it was not just once or twice, but pretty often and is irritating to me also.

Anyway, I still like them overall and like some of you, I go to only certain people.

GSP,

Oh man, I laughed my a*@ off at, "I don't know, I don't know anything about hunting or fishing".  That's funny.  I don't know about all the stores, but it seems to me that most of the guys working in gun department are weekend shooters, not hunters.  What are you going to do.

In my never ending quest for a SoCal hunting/fishing super store - some questions:

Has anyone here ever run a small gun shop or sporting goods store?  I've got a bunch of questions on how relationships with suppliers work.

Songdog,

Send AMMOe an IM, he used to run his own gunsmith shop in Montana.  He has given me quite a few pointers on the subject (as I have considered opening a small "garage" type business).  He definitely has quite few entertaining stories about some of the gunshops he's worked in, and how pricing, trades, work etc. are done...

I've bought 3 guns through gunbroker.com and have had excellent results--the guns were actually in better shape than advertised (always check the seller's feedback.  As far as Bass Pro, the one here has such high employee turn-over that you better know what you want before you go in--it's a great store though and it's an adventure just to go in and look around.

Yotegetter,

I just picked up my Kahr MK40 from Tuans.

They were very helpful and knowledgeable. They threw in a free holster, and the gun was special ordered for a cop, who changed his mind(got a department letter for a NAA Guardian), but for some reason it only came with one magazine. The salesman said he thinks it was part of the special pricing for the cop. Anyway, they ordered me an extra mag. I just got home from fishing in Lower Twin lake for a week, and there was a message "just come pick up the mag, no charge."

I am very happy with my experience there so far and will probably buy more from them in the future (That nickel Sig 228 they have sure looks nice).

They are on Nogales in Rowland Heights, at the corner of Colima, behind Jack In The Box. You can get in from either Colima or Nogales. It's a rather small store, but they have a large selection and are well stocked. The Kahr wasn't on display, but I asked about ordering it, and he comes out from the back with both an MK40 and a K9 so I could compare size. And of course, If it isnt in stock, they will be happy to order it.

Just to entertain the thought. Have any of you gents worked retail, for an extended period of time? How's this one, factor in a workable living wage for working retail coupled with "lost leaders"? What do you/we get? Another as food for thought. Would you tolerate the same level of service and competency when buying fast food. What of a premium meal and personalized table service? It's all relative when laying your money down. Speak up If you're better informed or more cordial than who is waiting on you. I can understand the release in venting in a forum, lawdy go to the source. Ok, done griping here, yet it's so easy for me, sorry gents.
