I have a pet pig named Petunia and she's getting near her last days. There have been a few posts about finding baby hogs and wondering what to do with them . If you catch one or doubt it will live I'll take it. I have a huge pen ready to go where it will live by the beach in a custom built dog house with fresh hay and 1 square meal a day. I'm not sure about the legality of capturing a live animal and giving it away, but it would be a shame if it died. I'll drive a few hours to get it.

It is not legal.......but I believe you can apply for a permit to keep a live wild animal in your possesion. Since you already ID'ed yourself, I would not do anything without a permit from DFG and from the county if necessary. Remember, this internet posts are logged on by Law Enforcement Officers who are also registered members of this internet hunting websites. I would just be on the up and up and not have to deal with anything negative down the road. God Bless.

Mike, I would edit your # out also so you don't become a PETA answering service.

MalibuMike,
I believe you can ask a moderator to edit out your post, the entire post , not only the phone no. It is definitely good advice from Superduty. 'Nuff said.

Why would PETA care if somone has a pet pig. Its not like he wants to harm it in any way. He just wants another pet pig. I would sugest going to a farm auction and getting a domestic pig nothing illegal with that right.
Why do people on this site automaticaly think that something illegal is going to take place as sone as a topic they know nothing about comes up.
I know that taking home a wild pig is illegal but why is everyone so parinoyed about some one posting the question online. This is still america and we do have the fredom of speach right? I don't want to ruffel any feathers but take it easy on people who are not as carful posting info and questions online. i might be way off base on this but then again you can always jump on me about this post too.

No one appreciates crank calls on their phone, PETA or otherwise. It is good advice from Superduty. Free country or what is not the issue. Crank calls are the issue. 'Nuff said.

First of all, it's not smart posting a phone number in a forum/message board.

Second, I'm sure the fish cops look in here from time to time, if not more often.

Tom, Malibumike was given some sound advice and he seems be on the up and up. It is illegal to take an animal out of the wild without a permit. Now he knows that. It was the theme of his post. As far as law enforcement and PETA trolling the forums, I know of several examples where this is indeed the case. The few members that responded didn't jump on him, just informed him.

Mike wasn't getting slammed, he was being warned.

This IS the WORLD WIDE WEB. A lot of people read it, for a lot of reasons. And whatever you post here becomes fodder for whatever those reasons are. If you post your phone number or email address... even your real name, don't be too awful surprised if you start getting messages that you don't want. Odds are, it'll be Spam emails or telemarketing calls. But it can also include crank calls, hack attacks, or other such activities from people who don't feel the same way about hunting as we do.

Just as an example... within 5 minutes of reading this post, I was able to get the address and a map to Mike's house. With a bit more digging, at no cost, I can learn a whole lot more.

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

2118. It is unlawful to import, transport, possess, or release
alive into this state, except under a revocable, nontransferable
permit as provided in this chapter and the regulations pertaining
thereto, any wild animal of the following species:

(b) Class Mammalia (mammals)

Order Artiodactyla (swine, peccaries, camels, deer, elk,
except elk (genus Cervus) which are subject to
Section 2118.2, moose, antelopes, cattle, goats, sheep, etc.)
All species except: domestic swine of the family Suidae; American bison, and domestic cattle, sheep
and goats

Now that is the legal word.

Do I know of folks here in the state who have "adopted" and kept orphaned piglets? Yep - but they sure don't or didn't go around broadcasting the news.

Just don't come over to my place and shoot my pig you crazy hog hunters!

So now I have some info about the law and that what I needed to know. But here is a technical question....the law states that there is an exception in regards to domestic pigs.....So if you happen to shoot a FERAL domestic hog and she has some FERAL DOMESTIC BABIES running around let me know. I'm guessing this limits me to the relly pink ones! And remember the message was contingent on it being legal!

I'm just going to have to legally buy one I guess. My hopes were to save a little piggy that might otherwise become coyote bait. It probably completely spins the PETA freaks head trying to figure out why a hog hunter would have compassion on a baby pig but it's true. My pet pig has been the coolest pet ever and she's getting really old. Most farmers have told me that pigs a very social animals and like company. When we had a horse, Petunia would go over to the corral and just hang next to the horse becuase there was no other animals around.
So in her dying days, I figured a little friend would be nice.

Back to the loophole that I believe may exist. Just what percent of feral and domestic do you think is mixed in to a black hog? A white and black? or all Pink hog?

Maybe I'll look in to obtaining the permit.

Malibu's only baby wild hog rescue service!

Hey Mike,

Call DFG and see what they say. They may be able to give you some good direction.

I also used to know the folks at Malibu Wildlife Rescue, but they mostly did seals and cetaceans. You might look them up anyway.

Hey Speck,
What is a cetacean if you don't mind me asking?

Mike,
If all you want is a pet pig, you should be able to get one for under $50 at a local farmers' auction.

I think I really want a wild feral thats all furry and has tusks! The ones for sale at a 4-H just look a little to pink and bubbley. If the law didn't come in to play the ultimate pet pig would be a large russian boar with big tusks that is super friendy. My pig now is a little black pot belly pushing about 125. She rolls over on her back so you can scratch her belly like a dog. She also appreciates a mud wallow in the summer to roll around in. All those posts of people finding baby pigs got me thinking and wanting. It's a funny law when you can kill it but you can't bring it home and save it if it's going to die. I guess I'm a baby hog pro-lifer! Pro- choice when it come to the big ones.......my choice to have a freezer full of smoked hams and sausage!

Superduty, Cetaceans are animals in the whale and dolphin family.
