Bob,that is a beautiful pronghorn.Great looking cape & a great set of horns.I had no idea Texas had country like that.Looks like it would be really challenging to get close to one there. Those mountains in the background look interesting.
Thanks Jesse! I use a Rem 700 in 7mm-08 in an HS Precision stock topped with a Nikon Monarch 4-12x40. I was shooting the 139gr. Hornady SST over 43.5 grs. of Varget.
Hey Bob,
Real nice heart shape on those horns. Pretty animal.
Did you guys use an outfitter? If you did, would you mind sending me an email with some of the details? Also, if this was an outfitted hunt, do they take archery guys?
That country screams of coyotes and cats.
Unfortunately, it was a hunt with an outfitter. That is about the only way you can hunt pronghorn in west Texas. I say unfortunately because we were not pleased with him. The guide he put us with was really poor. He was young and clueless. We would have been much better off hunting on our own. I don't think this is what you are looking for. You are correct, however about the country. It abounds with coyotes, bobcats, and cougars.
I do know of a good archery hunt in New Mexico if you are interested.
Thanks for the reply Bob. I was hoping to find a helpful outfitter in Texas, but would be interested in learning about your contact in NM. Email me if you don't want to clutter up the board.
