If you want to start out cheap, check out craigslist or ebay for a used 300D(digital rebel). They should be under $500. And yes, your Canon mount lenses will work with the Rebel. They should be EF mount.

Cannon EOS 300 with a tamaron 70-300 4-5.6 telemacro lens. More goodies to come as soon as I can figure out how to convince the wife to let me spend the green backs.

The shutterbug bit me hard during my first tour in Iraq, when all I had was a Canon Powershot S410 (4MP, point and shoot). A few friends that happen to be professional photographers gave me a little guidance and direction, and it became something far more than a hobby for me. A little bit of my combat pay from OIF3 bought me a Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D, 8MP DSLR) along with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8II lens, and I was hooked for good. My folks got me a set of Sigma zooms (18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 and 55-200mm f/4-5.6) later, and I bought the Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM, all of which I put to good use between OIF3 and OIF5. Since then, I've decided photography needs to be part of how I pay the bills, and will be minoring in photography when I get out of the Army after this tour. A good chunk of combat pay went towards a lot of new equipment, namely the Canon 5D, Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L, Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, a new tripod, monopod, four PWII wireless triggers, and 3 Vivitar 285HV strobes.

It's pretty difficult for me to post photos from where I usually hit the forum, as most of my stuff is hosted on Flickr and the powers that be block that site at work (they block my own server as well, for some reason.)

There's a bunch of OIF5 photos here - a lot of them are self portraits, helps the folks deal with me being gone (again.) Otherwise my "professional" site is here. One of these days, when I get back, I'll upload all of my OIF3 photos as well.

Canon XSi. I love it. I'm getting cabin fever waiting for spring to hit so that things around here stop looking white, grey, black and brown.
