Hi,
I was looking into getting a new fishing reel and i was wondering what kind i should get. I have been using spinning for along time and i was wondering if baitcasting would be a good change.
I was also wondering if the baitcasting reel perform better then the spinning reel.
I mainly fish for bass.

It will depend on how much you spend. I like using a baitcaster for everything, except lite tackle, (grubs and finesse). They may take a little practice to learn how to cast smoothly, but it would be worth it.  I would recommend the shimano Curado 130$ above all others. I use it for everthing salmon, bass ect. very tough and reliable. Stay away from (in my opinion) daiwa baitcasters, quantum's a nice little reel but very weak drag I burned it on one salmon, so for bass only. As far as spinning goes I recommend the Shimano cant think of the models offhand, or  try the more costly Diawa's such as the SST with anti reverse or the emblem, I like mine.

I am just beginging to get back into fishing.  I have a piece of crap rod and reel.  In fact, my girlfriends 5 year old has a better set up than me.

My grandpa is an avid bass fisherman and he uses strictly shimano reels.  He had a couple break on him and I took them back to Shimano in lake forest.  I could not believe the customer service.  I got a total of 3 reels fixed at different times.  2 were no charge and one cost $12.00.  The 2 that were n/c were because they were a little busy and they couldn't get the reel on a bench so they swapped it out with brand new reels.

When I buy a 'good reel' for myself, it will definately be a shimano.  I am not even sure what they cost, but their customer service is worth it.

BTW, as my user name indicates, I am an electrician, not an employee of shimano.

Any model that shimano makes you will be very happy with, as for whether or not to get a baitcaster...well that is up to you, but the baitcasters are really comfortable, when ya get use to them, can palm the reel in your hand and with the right rod such as an GLoomis you cant go wrong and will feel every bit of structure you fish and be able to let the fish take the bait and set the hook with no disturbance to the fish. Pretty sure gloomis use to be Phoenix rods, still have a couple of them around, and shimano and phoenix is what I learned to fish em with.
