The Feather River's a nice river with desent salmon ,steelhead , striper and shad runs most years.  With some sturgeon sometimes.  Then there's aways bass and cats.
I fished in diffrant places fron Almanor to Verona but mostly I fish from Marysville south.  There's desent bank access and most is uncrowded.  That's usually where I fish (off bank) I'am done putting money in my old boat, so till I get a new one it's the bank for me.  But I like the bank it's more relaxing.
Stripers should be picking up soon.  Some guy caught a 57 lb.er here, two weeks ago on bait.  But fishing's kinda spotty right now.  I bait fish a lot but casting big plugs and jigs is hard to beat when the fish are there.
Then in a little over a month it will be shad time then salmon soon after that.  All the way till Ducks

Lake Nacimiento for White Bass is my favorite fishing place during the month of April, plus it's close to Fort Hunter Liggett, just in case I'm in the mood for boar hunting.  The Whites spawn in the narrows, but it’s a long run from the marina to the Narrows (18 miles) and it can be foggy so get a chart and be sure to have a compass and if you do have
GPS, mark a few waypoints or produce a route if the day is clear and you have the opportunity. I have the shore line saved in my Garmin GPS III, and it takes all of the 10 saved plots plus the 1900 point of active memory.  Some of the Marine Chart Plotters have the shore line of Naci, but they are costly.  Hit the spawning riffles first and then work your way back down the Narrows I use size 4 and 2 mini SPS Flashtail Clousers. I also like them in chart/white and white/brown. Overall length about 1-1/2 to 2 inches including the flashtail.  I'm talking about fly fishing, of course, with LC-13.

My favorite places are the trout streams around Burney -  Hat Creek, Burney Creek and some small creeks draining into Lake Britton. Also small streams above Jackson that are easily reached for a one day trip but I won't turn down a chance to fish local lakes.

I'm still trying to learn flyfishing. I do pretty good but still catch a lot of "tree fish" on the back stoke. Even caught my hat once.

I too love fishing in the Burney area, I have had some awesome days at Baum Lake and on Hat Creek.  I enjoy fishing the Feather for Salmon and Shad but I need a boat, I am getting fed up with the Outlet Hole.

gordon, now is the best time before it gets hot. Summer is a killer down there.

Wide open corvina action for boat anglers fishing the south end of the sea this past week. Steve Roberts, his sons Jeremy and Jordan, all of Upland, and Kenny Banks of Moreno Valley, had limits fishing on Roberts' boat this past Saturday. They caught and released "over a couple hundred" fishing out of Red Hill. The fish that went in the ice chest went from 8-0 to a 16-7 caught by Banks. They had good action off the old jetty, the bird sanctuary, and Black Rock. The action was good on just about any artificial in 9 to 12 feet of water. Ray and Steven Langford, El Centro, had 10 fish from 10 to 15-8, releasing many more. The further north you travel up the sea, the slower the bite has been on corvina. For example, off Salton Sea Beach, there has been excellent action on croaker, but anglers reported only a couple of corvina this past weekend, and they were 4-0 class fish.

The whole east shoreline from the state park jetty south to Bombay beach has been excellent for croaker with good tilapia and sargo action at times. Some corvina are also being caught, but mostly from boats in deeper water. Anglers are reminded the limit on corvina is five and there is an 18-inch minimum size. The "Tex Ritter Salton Sea Fishing Clinic" will be held beginning 9 a.m., May 12 at Varner Harbor. Ritter was the chief ranger at the sea for many years and is a veteran angler. To sign up for the clinic call, (760) 393-3059.

you know, i live in the heart of southern california, and its kinda hard to get away from the crowds.  ive spent most of my fishing days up in montana, since i grew up there.  nothin beats flyfishing the bighorn river in early summer.  anyways, since i hate fighting other people over a fishing spot, i like to hit up san gabriel canyon every once in a while.  the east fork san gabriel river holds a decent amount of fish year round.  the fish dont hold much size, but its fun when you can fool them into taking a fly thats half as big as them.  ive had some luck on santa ana river lakes also, but i prefer the small rivers.

Ditto on Skinner, Perris and the Salton Sea...Skinner in the winter months October through Janurary fantastic for stripers ranging from 6-12 pounds. Like all the rest, using live shad at the east end. I drift from the boat ramp all the way to the east. Pick a couple of them up on each drift. Love using ultra lite rod and reel with 4-6# test on these. Great eating fillets, be sure to cut the red streak of meat out...mmmmmmm! Been down to Salton Sea twice and loaded up on Corvina and Talapia, used the croaker for bait. Mostly jigged hopkins spoons, what a fighting fish, those Corvina are. Caught and released them, anyone eating them? Also head up to the Santa Ana River off hi-way 38 @ seven oaks area. Limit on the trout there very quick, rainbow power bait is the ticket. Perris for bass, dont eat them...YUK! But troll for the holdover trout to 7# down 4 colors with lead core straight out from marina.
Needle fish for these lunkers!
fish um!

Lake Cachuma from January through the end of April is a blast for trout.  Troll anything red or gold through the narrows or into the bays and you're going to catch some fish.  I'm not a bass fisherman, but I hear the bass fishing is pretty good.  Also the redear fishing is supposed to be good, although I've never fished for redear.

Paul
