I have ben asking that question for three years Smallblock. You saw the last buck I shot and that was 3 seasons ago. A bomber but the meat is long gone. I am pretty tired of tag soup.

Really hope to knock one down this year.

I have been scouting and have seen one forkie. I only have one place to hunt and that has ben a bust the past two years. I do not hunt much public land as most of it in d3-d5 is too crowded or there are no bucks. I am going to Montana in Novemebr for a combo hunt so I hope to do well therebut also hope to do good in Cali before that..

That Montana trip should be a good one; I bet you're looking forward to it.

Seriously guys, I am a California transplant and was curious if the mule deer are located in any one part of California or they are found through out. I used the Search feature to look for info on mule deer in D13 but found zilch.

Smallblock, check out the link, this may help you a bit. I usually hunt D11 & D13. I have seen a lot of spikes and 1 brut last season in D-11. There out there, you just have to hump hump and hump to get away from the roads.

Ok, I'll let you in on a secret honey hole in D-13 that has produced some amazing 5x5s. This is just between you and me, okay? If word of this super secret hot spot gets out I'll have to smack you upside the head.

Here's where it is: You go just south of ~## woi s#*

Smallblock as far as Boone and Crockett is concerned anything west of 5 is blacktails and anything east is mulies. They are mulies or blacktail mulies cross some call eastern blacktails. They consider them mulies for the record books and the one I showd you with your hats on it was 5 points short of the books cuz they say it is a mulie..

Don't forget the whitetails here in kali Land... Yes we have whitetails and they are easy to hunt .. Just look at a sign.. Might not be good eating however.. But you can get a whitetail everyyear.. Just shoot a sign !!

This is one of those questions for the ages..............

On my first trip to Utah many moons ago, I asked the same question of my uncle in our first day at camp. While I thought it was a smart arse answer at the time, I actually got lot of help in a few words from him. They were;

"Deer are where you find 'em".

In other words, wherever it is that you plan to hunt, go scout for the deer to find out where they are. Depending on the pressure and habitat conditions, they can be either creatures of habit, nocturnal or nomadic.........

BTW, if it was easy to find them, there wouldn't be many left.

Put in your time to do your homework before your hunt. Good luck in your scouting and your deer hunt.

Thanks, I guess I should have been more specific in my question. I wanted to find out if the mule deer is found through out CA or is only known to be in certain areas.
