Where Are You From & Where Do You Hunt Hogs?

I'm from southern California, basically born and raised here. I've been hunting pigs for about 8-years now. I've hutned PArkefield, Coalinga, Orland and Tejon. I've bagged five so far, with the biggest being a 220-lb boar. I use to hunt them with a Marlin 30-30, but I took a lot of grief from the pro's up north about how my gun wasn't big enough. Proved them wrong with my first pig taken from an off-hand shot at a running pig at 100-yards and hit in the back of the head. I now hunt with a 30-06. My dream hunt would be anywhere I could chance upon a large boar. I'm still looking for a nice one to mount.

I live in Merced Ca, but I grew up hunting deer with my dad in so cal. I got enterested in pigs while in living in Monterey. I had a disappointing guided hunt south of Salinas and that put me off for a while. I get my tags every year just in case the opportunity to shoot a pig comes up. I got two last year with an old 30-06 I had in the truck, we were on way to ride dirtbikes when we ran across them. I've got a Marlin Guide Gun I'd like to try on a good size pig

Hi all! I am from Hanford, Ca in the Central Valley. I hunt with my 7 Mag and a 44 Ruger Blackhawk. Most of my hunts are spot and stalk or with my dogs. I hunt the Parkfield area and the coast. Specifically, Santa Maria area. I guide for Central Coast Outfitters on the Cojo/Jalama Ranch south of Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Im in the Bay Area, Ca. I've hunted hogs for about 12 years, just about everything else since I was old enough to shoot. Ive hunted a lot at FHL, though not recently. Also chased them around a few times at Upper Cottonwood Creek WA. Ive shot a couple on Private ranches in Sonoma county as well, but prefer public land hunts. Just starting to figure the hogs out at Lake Sonoma too. I bowhunt almost exclusively (PSE) and my dream hunt would be to take a boar with 3" teeth on public land with a bow.

Hey there my names Matt and I live in Manteca. I have killed hogs on private land which my access has recently disappeared for some reason. So now I am looking at new public spots. I just started bow hunting 2 years ago and would love to find and shoot em that way. But no success as of yet. Which just makes me want it that much more.

Hello fellow hoggers! It does my heart good to see this kind of communication starting up amongst hunters. I've moved to Northern California, Manteca, from San Diego. I started hunting for pigs in '92 and didn't get one until 2000.
I have been to most of the BLM spots in Bob Rob's book, from Panoche Hills on south. I then started going to Fort Hunter Liggett, where a pig God named Maurice put me onto the sweet areas and schooled me some. I've seen probably 25 pigs up there but haven't fired a round yet. I love that place.
Then I started going to Vandenberg and finally popped my first pig with my Mossberg bolt shotgun. Later in that same season, I got my second pig with my Winchester 7 mag. I retired from the Navy in 2001. I'm only 48 so I can't completely retire yet. Spend too much time working on the job and at home, but that's just typical for me.
I can't shoot my bow much any more due to a bad shoulder. I had some serious surgery last year and it made me think twice about how to live each day. Enjoy it now and don't wait for retirement! And if you are retired, well 3 cheers to you.

Best wishes for all you hog chasers. A day of pig hunting is as good as it gets for me.

Hi all, posted a couple times before not on this post... so here it goes. My name is Chad and I live in the Visalia area, about an hour south of Fresno. I haven't actually been out hog hunting yet but will try Vandenberg in June. I'll be hunting Wilderness Unlimited ranches next year. Just bought a Tikka T3 Ultralight in 7mm-08, and have an old Remington 740 in 30-06. Thanks to all for such a great forum, with great info and posts!

Hi fellow Hog Hunters. I've joined JHO since April of this year, but have not really post anything yet. Well, I live in Fresno and have started hunting hogs since '97. I am a member of WU for a couple of years now. So, before then, I've been tryin my luck at public land, mostly at the Laguna Mt. area, with no luck whatsoever. Didn't find success until Jan. of last year when I was finally able to bag my first porker

. Shot it with, my then, Remington bolt-action 30-06. Shot my second porker June of this year about ten minutes before my younger brother got his first. He was one happy guy considering his was way bigger than mine.

This last christmas, I saved up and got myself a nice Browning BAR High-Grade 7mm Rem Mag. Such a beauty gun as well as accurate. And I will be hitting the hills with a 2000 Tacoma xtra cab 4X4 which I just got a month ago. I would be more than glad to be hittin' them hills and hogs with fellow JHO members as well as WU members if ever anyone is up for it. I have some knowledge of the Laguna Mt. area, Coaling Mineral Springs and have hunted once at the Pine Flat Lake area (with no success, but did see fresh wallow holes). Also, I have been to several WU properties and know a thing or two about each property.

Pull up a chair and stay awhile, but be careful, this place can get addicting. You can find out just about anything you want to know about hunting, guns, bows, fishing, knives, cameras, optics.....etc..... just throw up a post in one of the forums when you need advice or info and somebody will step up and answer it. Sometimes 40 or 50 will reply. Again,

Hi,

I recently went on my first hunt for wild pig in the Bradley area with a guide named Ed Roth. It was also my first time huntng anything. It was a great time. I used a 30-06 bolt action rfile with scope. The pig I shot was a 120 lb dry sow at about 50 yards. It's now sitting in my freezer as pork chops, smoked ham, and sausages. I'm looking forward to trying the meat. My friend shot a 150 lb boar from about 100 yards. Below is a picture of my pig, sorry about the blood, but it was gutted already.

I'm hooked now. My next two goals are: 1)rifle hunt on public land, 2)learn to hunt with a recurve bow.

I just joined this site.I just got into bow hunting last year,the addiction has already got a grip on me.I have hunted L.Sonoma,first time out I had a shot at 25yds but it was not a clear shot,so I held off.I havent been anywhere else but I am self employed and can go anytime.My hunting partner is hard pressed to get free from his wife so I hunt alone,but I am always willing to hook up with someone new.
Right now I am shooting an 04 hoyt supertech.

Hi, Iam from Redlands California and haven't pig hunted yet.
I saw the JHO notice about Tejon and thought it would be cool to
hunt with others kind of like a short version of a long ranch fishing trip.
I was going to go outside of Bakersfield with my bow but was told by a local that the
average shot was around 150 to 250 yds.
So, I bought a SAVAGE 111 7mm Rem Mag package deal.
I figured it would be like the old days when I pulled out my .35 cal marlin.
once a year just before hunting season to warm up.
I live around the corner from Inland Fish & Game (shooting range) so I picked up a
yearly membership. I also picked up a JHO card there yesterday.
I figured I can shoot my bow and alittle sporting clays worst case scenario.
I took the 7mm out there to sight it in & practice and now I'm hooked (big time).
I've gotta go at least once a week and shoot a box of shells.
I had to change the scope mounts/rings and make some adjustments and would really
like to put holes in pigs in addition to paper.
I'm working on my form and shooting positions and banging the 200 meter gong consistantly.
In the big scheme of things I'm pretty sure that after all this I'll run into a pig at 35yds.

Hello to everyone,
I'm new to JHO and also new to Bakersfield but have been hunting piggies for over a year. All pigs I've taken were at FHL. I have only hunted TA 29 w/ shotgun, but just got a muzzleloader & can't wait to poke holes in some pigs. I would like to try other TAs for rifle, any suggestions? Plan on going weekend of March 25-26 to FHL so if anyone is going to be there, I'd like to maybe get to know some fellow JHOers.

Anyhow, only pig huntin I've done is at my buddy's dad's ranch located about 20 miles north east of where 505 and I5 meet in Northern California. It's actually a deer ranch and the pigs scare off the bucks. When huntin pigs up there our motto is "Kill All You Can!".

I am from Yuba City and Chico, it just depends on which day of the week it is. I have not hunted hogs but when I was younger. My dad dragged me all around upper cottonwood WA for hogs. I haven't hunted for them since but after reading some of the post. It time to give it another go around.

I first want to say that I am new to this site and I love it. The people and info. are great. I am from the Fresno area and have been hunting hogs about 7 years now. I have harvested 1 hog, a sow about 180lbs, on a private 3,000 acre ranch in the foothills of Tulare county. Unfortunately the ranch was sold about a year ago. So now I've been trying my luck on public land in Coalinga and also around Pine Flat reservoir. I've seen sign but haven't seen any pigs yet. I would like to try over on the coast maybe Hunter Liggett or Los Padres. I also have trouble finding hunting partners as addicted to hunting as I am, so if any of you hunters from the Fresno area want to go just let me know.

Big horn ranch, not too tough, but sucessful

Twisselman ranch, a nice hunt, I would do it again.

Pigs on two different Wilderness Unlimited(WU) Ranches, total 4,

Cummings and another ranch incentral californai that has hogs, you just have to know where to look.

My dream pig hunt would be hogs in africa. I am going thios October on a plains game hunt. Had to put my WU membership on inactive, but I will probably be back next year.
