Hi everyone

Im originaly from San Diego but was recently relocated to the Sacramento area. This waterfowl season will be my first in northern California and I am looking forward to it. Seems to me that there is more hunting opportunities in this half of the state.

I have been teaching myself about the art of waterfowl hunting with some help from friends I have meet in the field and web blogs such as this.

Favorite duck to hunt: so far has to be wigeon. Respond to calls well, good looking birds, and great table fare.

Favorite shotgun: the browning given to me by my grandfather.

My dream waterfowl hunt would have to be a flooded timber hunt. It just seems awesome to have ducks coming down on you from the tree canopy.

Thanks for reading; happy hunting to you all!

my names joseph i have been duck hunting for 9 years now i grew up in hilmar so i was close to all the refuges (los banos, san luis, salt slough, kesterson, and china island). as often as i could i would ditch school and get out there and hunt. Now i try to hunt those same refuges including freitas south and i mix it up every now and then and hunt turlock lake and modesto resivoir. my favorite gun would probably be my stoeger 2000 never had a problem. i dont think i have a favorite duck or goose if it responds to my calling and cups up and comes in i like it!!!! well if any of u are ever out hunting and u see a 05 gmc 4 door silverado with a sticker in the rear window or a deer with bowhunter written under it its my say hi!!

Addicted to duck...

Hello Everyone, This is my first post with the forum so thanks for having me!
I've been born and raised in southern california, and hunt accordingly. I hunt mostly San Jacinto with a bit of Kern and Wister mixed in.

I'm a first generation hunter/fisherman and just started bout 3 years ago. I was taken hunting by a friend, shot my first duck (beautiful Redhead) and the rest is history.

My favorite bird to hunt right now is the one that flies by me!

Im hunting with a Benelli Super Nova. First gun I've owned and it treats me well. It can take a beating

Think my dream waterfowl land would be woodlands in Arkansas. Shooting duck in a wetland full of trees... what more can there be???

I was born and raised in St Louis, MO. I taught myself to hunt waterfowl on the Missouri River backwaters. I joined the Marine Corps in 1986 and have lived and hunted waterfowl all over the US. My favorite waterfowl to hunt is whatever I have working the decoys at the moment. I am still carrying the same Mossberg 600AT pump that my parents gave me in 1983.

From SoCal, currently Newport Beach by way of the San Fernando Valley. Just starting to learn how to waterfowl hunt this season, usually at Wister and trying SJ. Self taught to this point, with the aide of youtube/du video tips and duckmen dvd's. Favorite duck would be a wood duck, favorite goose is a Canada. I shoot a benelli nova but am looking to upgrade to a vinci. An awesome hunt would be with good friends somewhere in the Mississippi flyway (I'm thinking) just sitting a blind working wave after wave of ducks/geese and getting in some good frat chat.

I grew up in Socal and was very lucky to have my Father and Unles buy a 40 acre duck club across the street for Wister. We grew up hunting every Wed and Sat,Sun.My passion was watching my dad call in a group of high flying Pintail.I now hunt Wister as we are having water avilability problems at our club.I hunt with my brother and 18 year old son who loves the 2a.m. wake-up calls. My favorite hunt was a guided hunt for Snows with Myrin Fortin and Danny Moss .We set the hunt up as a surprise for my father who had stopped hunting twenty years ago.My son had to pressure my father into hunting and it worked. The hunt was for Jan 1 and we were surprise to see the hunting writer for Western Outdoor News Jim Niemic meet us in the morning. After introductions I to;d Jim That the hunt was a three generation hunt for my son to hunt one last time with his grampa. We had a ball-limits all around and great memories (My son still talks about that hunt)

I am born and raised in Paradise CA, just north of chico. I have been duck hunting about 10 years and I cant get enough of it.

My younger cousin who is like a brother to me got me into it and we hunt together almost every weekend.

I mainly hunt the Upper Butte Basin refuges (Llano Seco, Howards Slough, and LDC) and love it, have had alot of great days.

My favorite shotgun is my Stoeger M2000. very dependable

New guy to JHO and Waterfowl

I have lived in coachella valley over 26 years. This is my first year hunting in California. I grew up in IL. hunting rabbit and pheasant.

My first and only time duck hunting was opening day this year at Wister, limited out, all Ruddies.

I have a 12 ga. Mossberg model 88 Maveric pump. I had a High Standard semi auto when I was younger back in IL.

My son in-law "Woodgrain" is teaching me duck hunting and helps me a great deal. He is a great guy and we have good times out hunting and fishing. It is never too cold, to muddy, too hot, to many misquitoes, etc. He is a great hunting and fishing partner, never negative or complaining. Ready to load up the truck and take off any time.

He also introduced me to this site and some of the guys down at Wister.

It's grandpa's time to live the dream and fill the deep freeze.

Born and raised in the SF Bay Area 52 years ago. Started hunting waterfowl when I was in high school. We used to cut school on Fridays and drive up to Colusa and get in the sweatline. Gave up duck hunting for many years until three years ago when one of my workers got me back into it. Now my 14 year old son is hunting with me. We enjoy hunting in the Upper Butte Basin and Sacramento area. We also enjoy hunting deer, elk, turkey, and wild pigs. Two goals I hope to achieve this year is to shoot a greenhead mallard and a Canada goose.

Born and raised in California. I currently live, work and hunt in the Central Valley.

I didn't start waterfowl hunting until I went to college at UC Davis when I started hunting with my cousin a lot. I started pounding the refuges but have moved to less refuge hunting and more hunting by permission in various areas throughout the valley.

I love the way mallards work but a teal shoot is just downright fun. I love chasing Aleutian's. The way they call and come in big flocks is tough to beat.

I have always, and will always, shoot an 870.

I've experienced some pretty phenomenal duck and goose hunting in the past several years. The only "dream" hunt I haven't been able to experience is one with my sons. But that's because they are only 3 and 1... I'll have to wait a while for that to happen.

Howdy

My name is Tim, age, 44. Born and raised in San Francisco Area, currently in Pacifica for the last 10 or so years.

Grew up duck hunting with my cousin and uncle, having picked many birds before getting to hunt at age 7 in 1973,

Hunted with them as a kid back in the glory days of the Suisun Marsh where they would each routinely kill 14 cock sprig each weekend

Been hunting in the valley in the rice since about 97

Hunt anywhere I can but particularly don't like hunting the refuge unless I have a resi, been there done that, and it's old, hence the rice blind

Currently shooting a Benelli M1 Super 90, all synthetic

Cheers:toast-yellow:

I was born and raised in San Jose, Calif. and have always hunted my family's duck club up in the marsh near Suisun City. Never a complete overload of waterfowl on the property, but I usually manage to harvest 100 birds a year or so. I'm moving up to Central Oregon in a little less than 2 weeks though, so will have to find some areas to harvest some ducks.

Im from Merced,CA and hunt all around Los Banos,CA. When I was just turning 3 years old, my dad wrapped me up warm and carried me to the duck blinds, by 7 years old I was smacking them dead. Now going on 20 years old, Duck Hunting is all I think about. I dont have a specific FAVORITE hunt, but as long as I slide on them waders and hold that black Beretta, im the happiest man in the world. My favorite shot gonna is my precious black Beretta I like to call "Black Out". It was given to me by my dad when I was 16. My dream Duck Hunt(s) would definatly be 1.Hunting with my dad in the Flooded Timber in Arkansas. And 2.Hunt with the Duck Commanders.

My name is Jeff and I'm approaching 61 years of age. My duck hunting started at the Salton Sea when I was five or six years old with my father literally carrying me out to his blind at the edge of the sea. My father was an avid outdoorsman with his roots being from Tennessee.

My first duck was a Greenwing Teal drake that swam close enough to the blind for me to shoot it with my Crossman .22 cal pump pellet gun. I've been hooked ever since!

I hunted the California refuges until my late twenties, and unlike a lot of my buddies, I stayed single which afforded me to chase my passion and join a private duck club. My father and I leased blinds on Disney's old pond (Donald Duck Pond) at Gilbreath Brothers Duck Club in Wasco, California during the mid 70's.

When I got married in 1988 I joined a better club called the Burbank Land Club about five miles northeast of Gilbreath Brothers where I hunted for fourteen years until 2002. Since then I have hunted the Little Ramona Duck Club behind Lake Perris and occasionally venture back up to the Burbank.

My favorite bird to decoy and to eat is the Pintail. Specklebellies are my favorite geese (got three last weekend).

My favorite duck guns are both Berretta's (Xtrema and A400).

This will be my last year of California duck hunting as my wife and I are currently building our retirement home in Eagle, Idaho. I went to college in Idaho, so I am looking forward to the great hunting and fishing that state has to offer.

I still love the sport!

Best regards and good hunting to all,

Jeff
