Haven't tagged a pig with my 30-30 yet (it's the only animal that rifle ever missed), but you'll be golden with 170 grain Core-lokt or PowerPoints. The Silvertip will probably be OK, but will most likely do a number on the meat. Watch where you put the shot.

Good hunting!

I've always been partial to Nosler partitions. I've taken all of my hogs with them... For my 30-30 I think I use 150grain.

i would use teh 170 grain corelokt. Its a great all around bullet and in a 30-30 its gonna have a serious punch. Good luck on what ever you choose.

Anyone tried the Barnes X-bullet in 30-30 nose configuration (XFN?)?

I recently bought this winchester 94AE 30-30. I was reading the manual last night and it said to only use bulllets for tube feed rifles. Does that mean i can't use the power point and silver tip?

It just means you cannot use pointed bullets. You must used bullets with flat or round noses. This is so the tip of a bullet does not push against the primer of the round in front of it in the tube magazine.

I load spitzers in 30-30 for my Savage 24 (break action 30-30 over 20 guage). If he really, really wanted to there is probably no reason a careful man couldn't put one directly into the chamber of a lever gun for his first shot, or maybe even single load over an empty magazine. The difference in downrange ballistics probably is not worth creating the risk one of the pointy bullets might find the inside of the magazine.

TH..

This is another case of "just because you CAN do it, doesn't mean you SHOULD".

NEVER mix your pointed rounds with flat/roundnoses for a tube-fed gun. It can only end in tears... and usually at the worst possible time.

For a 30-30, a good round nose or flat nose is perfectly fine and there's no need to load up spitzers or BTs.

; the 150 grain is far more than you'll ever need, and from any rifle I've ever shot they shoot better.

Go to the range, try 150 & 170's; then use which ever shot the best. Either bullet is more than enough for hogs.
