Hey everyone. I am been starting to get things together for next weekend want to know how important some things are?

for example Camo clothing and scent control should I run out and get some scentkiller spray/detergent and wach my camo in it. I will be hunting with a rifle so I don't plan on sneeking up close like and archer would be doing.

Anything else that a first timer would need or things that usally forgotten at the last second. Whatever I cant buy I could borrow from a buddy.

This is only my opinion, I have never bothered with scent control if I was rifle hunting, not to say it's not important, I just never did it. It's kind of up to you if want to buy some scent killer.

As far as what to take. They have several picnic tables all lined up, so theres plenty of spots to cook and eat. Bring you tent, lantern and all you normal camping gear. Take plenty of water, I usually take 2.5 gallons for drinking water, more if I'm going to cook with it.

Make sure you have your binoculars, rifle and bullets. I know this may sound stupid, but I know people who have went hunting to find out they left their rifle at home.

Make sure you have you pig tag and hunting license and don't forget a game bag!!

If you forget something, someone will have it. That's one of the good things about hunting with a group.

I'll start packing things up on Monday and Tuesday. I have been working a lot of hours this week covering my shift and another supervisors shift, but I'll have all next week off to get things together.

I just started getting a really bad flu/cold, so I'm coughing like crazy, sore throat and head feels like a balloon. Hope I'm better by the hunt, I hate hiking when I'm not feeling good.

Man, this is going to be fun.

Good info. I suspect we'll be camping close to the vehicles, so you don't have to worry about hiking and living off freeze dried food. I'll bring a couple jugs of water and a lantern. I'll probably toss in a cast iron skillet if we can have a fire. Glad to hear there are tables. I'm sure the cigars will keep mosquitos away.

For the field I''ve got a little camel bak type pack which holds a box of ammo, med kit, compass/gps, flashlight, knife, bag, license, rubber gloves etc. Just the basic while we're hunting. And depending on the group(s), we can maybe split up other things to carry if necessary.

Ok, all the deposits and information has been sent to George.

Ruger mac, you can give him your pig tag # when you get there on Friday. I don't know how I messed up the number but some how did.

Just making sure, does everyone know how to get there? and does anyone expect to be later then the schedule meeting time of 11:00am?

If possible, allow enough time for traffic and things like that. I know coming from the Stockton area, it's about 2 1/2 hrs to the visitors center.

I'm probably going to be leaving pretty early, I may check out that new archery range before we meet up, don't know for sure yet.

See ya then!!!!

I'm good to go...

Mel, I am going to send you a PM with all of my cell and home emergency contact info.. I think that might be smart for you to have a means to reach out to everyone if needed. (somehting changes, somebody doesnt show up on time, etc) - is there cell coverage at the visitors center?

For me, I'll be leaving the LA area near 2am and then hoping to plan my timing right for a breakfast up near that neck of the woods. With that much highway, I dont want to chance all the oportunities for traffic to bite me.

I'm working all this week, so taking the evenings to run through inventory and camping gear.

so Mel, whats the intel from George this week? anthing?

Pigs tearing up the place...? too many to count..? is he trying to decide if he needs to throw in an extra pig for all of us...? :p

Is it a desolate wasteland? :skeered:

Should be a lot of fun!

I was thinking of bringing my QUAD but space is getting tight in my truck. Mel, or anyone else who's been before can you tell me if bringing is worth it? It sounds like anywhere we go on our own quads we would half to be followed by George since he doesn't want people riding around by themselves. I want to leave it, unless of course it would help Me or others save time getting to and from hunintg areas.

Your pretty much right, if you have a quad you will need to follow George. You should be ok with a truck. George will have 1 or 2 guys helping him and they all have rinos, so they can take 2 - 3 guys each. I'm going to take 2 or 3 with me, so transportation shouldn't be an issue.

I worked 72 hours last week, haven't had time to do much. Had to replace the battery in my truck yesterday, packed all my gear last night, went to the range this morning, (1.5" high at 100 yards) is bad medicine for these hogs out to 300 - 350 yards. Will pack my truck on Thursday, by some groceries, heading out on Friday about 6:00am. I'm going to check out the new archery range up the road from the visitors center, shoot for an hour or more, then meet up and the visitors center :smiley-mouse: It's going to be fun!

My daughter is pregnant, and due any day. Just found out she will be induced on Thursday at 7:00pm. If she doesn't have the baby before I leave, my wife will be there and her boy friend.

See you guys on Friday.

I'm not sure how many bowhunter there are, we are going to figure that out on Friday. I'm rifle hunting, but bringing my bow just incase I fill quick, will try for a second hog with the bow.

I'm driving a silver tahoe, so look for me. I will probably be there about 9:30am or so.
