Who ever singned up u better have good boots and be in great condition if u are going to be bowhunting that ranch, its little mountian range makes lake sonomas look like hills, but Mel puts together a great group hunt, and Georges people will work hard for u, dont miss out, nice hogs runnin around somewhere there on 22,000 acers....tra

Boy I'm taking a lot of heat from the wife for this one. I didn't tell her about the last gun I bought and she found out about it and how much it cost from the neighbor. So I promised her I would tell her about this stuff. When she heard it was 4 bills she came unhindged. So I told her I would sell some of my gear to fund it, instead of it coming out of the regular budget. I can't wait for the hunt.

My stradegy is as follows:

1. Travel light. I started out with a few layers on, a backpack, handgun, rifle, change of clothes, TP, snacks, water, and a bunch of little things. This time I am minimizing all that. I plan on using just a handgun, wearing shorts a tshirt, and mid ankle boots. I would rather wear lighter shoes but the terrain gets a little too rocky. A water bladder in a light back pack with some jerky, and M&M's. Kinfe in my pocket binos around my neck and ready to go. You cover a lot of elevation, and if you want to chase some pigs over the hills you're looking at a 900+ foot climb sometimes so not having a ton of gear really pays off in the climb. This in turn heats your body so the shorts and Tshirt are a must for me.

2. Charge the hills. Most of the pig movement I've seen happens on the verticle, so the easier hike is a mistake in my opinion. I am going to look for the trails with the most verticle change.

3. Cover ground. I think your chances are better out there due to the sheer number of pigs to cover as much groud as possible sacrificing stealth for speed. It will be real noisy in the brush off the trails while the pigs are moving so they won't hear you while you approach. The guy I got last time was crashing through the leafs so hard that there'e no way he heard me huffing and puffing and crushing the smaller vegetation on the two track trail.

4. This one I'm still undecided....Hunt alone or with somebody else? Last time I did both and although the guy I was paired up with was decent enough company, our styles of hunting didn't compute, and he wasn't a JHO'er. But there were a couple of other guys that I would have loved to tag along with.

5. Stay and enjoy. This time I am going to camp and hang out. Last time I rolled in Saturday morning and hauled out shortly after sundown. Haven't been camping in some time so it will be fun.

What are you guys shooting with? I'm going to use my Ruger Blackhawk in 44mag. If I have to pass on too may long distance shots the first day I'll pack my .243 Savage rifle on Sunday.

You guys will have fun. I hunt a ranch that also borders Lake Sonoma and the activity right now is crazy. Last tune I went out which was Wednesday night I saw about 8 pigs in about an hours time. By the time I was in shooting range I had no more shooting light :(

I'm shooting a Tikka .308 and my 300 win mag as a back up.

If I can get my muzzleloader dialed in before the hunt, I'll knock one over with that :)

Ok guys I'm back. Going to get geared back up for the weekend. Depending on how my hand is, not sure if I will be hunting, but I'm going for sure. I'll know more on Friday.
