If a picture is worth a thousand words, then each of these great wildlife photographs taken in the past month can spin a yarn all its own. So can the photographers who contributed each one. The stories of where and how these photographs were captured, and the behavior of wildlife that led to the photos — encounter-by-encounter — is detailed in my Thursday outdoors feature in the San Francisco Chronicle and at www.sfchronicle.com. Nearly all the photographs are from parks and backyards in the Bay Area, with a few from outlying areas in Northern California. What sets you free? Hike. Bike. Camp. Fish. Boat. Wildlife watch. Explore.

Great pictures!

Just noticed #25, caption says it's a pig?

I am by no means an expert tracker, but I'd bet a lot that it is not a pig.
Maybe some others more experienced can confirm what is. (Big bobcat, Puma - no claws, so I doubt a canine...)

Absence of claw marks says feline, size says mountain lion. Now 26 is definetely a pig.
