Just got back from one of the best out-of-state hunting trips I've been on. My wife, Dad, and I drew antelope tags in Wyoming and the season coincided with the deer tags my Dad and I had drawn. So after a week of deer hunting, my Dad and I met my wife, kids, and Mom at our antelope area. We mainly drove around the first day to learn the area. My wife had never hunted before and stated she did not want to kill one from the truck. We saw lots of antelope and came up with a good plan for the next day.
After driving into the area, we parked and my wife and I headed off to check the next basin. We peeked over the ridge and saw a small bunch of doe antelope about 400 yds out. There was a nice draw that would allow us to get closer, so we took off down an old creek bed in the bottom of the draw. As we neared the crest of a hill overlooking the basin, we noticed a nice buck about 200 yds out. My wife was really comfortable at 100 yds. (from her practice at the range) so we decided to try to get closer. Our cover ran out at about 150 yds, except for some small sage. We crawled a little closer and I decided to stay back. My wife crawled to the last small bush and I could see the bucks horns over the rise in front of her. I worked a little closer as she got into p[osition to shoot. I could see the buck was facing her, but didn't look spooked. Just then he turned broadside and started to walk to the left. I whispered "Kill him!" from about twenty feet behind her. She waited until the buck stopped and put one right behind the shoulder at about 100yds. He dropped in his tracks and it was time to celebrate.
