I am planning a trip to wyoming this fall as a present to myself for finally graduating with the ole' B.A.

I need first hand advice from people who have done the deed. this trip will be strictly me on my own. i'd like to hunt close to the southwest corner if possible, but can adjust if need be.

any help will be appreciated.

Good luck getting drawn is the first step.  I sne tin the extra $100 dollars to better my odds which still are not good.

Mac the hunting in Southeastern Wyoming is a good choice. Lived there for about 10 years. One time I drew a Red desert tag as a resident in 10 tries. The odds are low down there in the southwest. Good goats on the east side 15 to 16 pretty normal on private property. If you want a guided hunt I can recommend a few.

I hunted in the Northeast near Gillette.  The odds on being drawn were really pretty good (1:2, I think?).  I was drawn each year that I intended to go.

It is mostly private property but knocking on some doors or a small tresspass fee will normally get you on most ranches for goats at least.

I'd try calling the WY fish & game.  We spoke with a couple of really nice blue haired ladies there years ago that were extremely helpful in knowing the odds, where the private/public land was, where to go if you just wanted a buck vs. a trophy, etc.  Wy still seems to be one of those states that welcomes out of state hunters.

Other than that, get some good binocs and get comfortable at longer than average shots and have a great time.  Also be prepared for some serions fluctuations in the weather.  We had 60s one day and woke up to 12" of snow 12 hours later.

I hope I don't jinx myself here, but I'm 2 for 2 on antelope draws in WY.  The first one was for area 57 and last year was for area 52.  Like they said above though, getting drawn is usually the hardest part.  Area 57 was great with alot of good bucks around (took 2, 74 & 76bc).  Area 52 was also good, but the overall quality wasn't as good as 57 (took 2, 70 & 78bc).  Antelope are a dime a dozen and you can shoot 12-13" bucks all day long, it's getting the 14+" that can be a little tricky.  I'd recommend south central WY and the area above Evanston/Rock Springs (I think it's area 93 that's really good over there, but I don't have my book handy).  Here's another hint from experience before you go, take some time and practice judging their horns.  They all look good on the hoof, but ground shrinkage will definetly come to haunt you if you have premature trigger pull...

hntndux,

is there a decent amount of public land in those areas?

and as for accessability, i don't mind walking, or even packing in for a night, but i don't have 4 wheel drive, and don't see that changing. how are the road systems. (i'm not looking to road hunt, but i do need to be able to move about)

MAC,
Units 57, 58, 59 and 60 are excellent units for antelope.  Mostly public land in all those units.  Finding the antelope isn't hard, focus around water holes.  I live within a few miles of 58, 59 and 60 and theres plenty of goats out there for you.  There is lodging in Rock Springs WY and you can get up every morning and drive to any of those units.  Unit 60 is the hardest to draw.  Heres a pic of a buck I got in unit 60 a couple years ago(Im a WY resident and have only drawn 1 time in my life LoL)  Horns were over 15 1/2" on both sides

I have had good luck around the Kemmerer area for a doe and a nice 13.5 inch buck. You can find more information on the Wyoming Fish and Game on their website.

Spend a few bucks and buy the Wy. Nonresident demand index it will list all areas with how many put in for tags and draw %.

SW is the tuff draw area's so don't put all your eggs in one basket.

I drew in area 57 and a few years later 60 lots of good goats with lots of public land but 6-7 years of no draws, the Eastern part of the state there are some 100% area's there, but most will require a fee to hunt maybe several hundred $$$, that would be a much better choice if you really want to plan a hunt for sure.

I hunted area 94 last year and finding the animals was not a problem at all.  I was with a group of five others and we were up there (non-guided, public land) for three days.  Three of the group shot their bucks the first day we were there and the fourth was taken the next morning.  All four were right around 12"  My dad and I took our time and looked at hundreds of different animals before we decided on "our" bucks.  His was 13" and mine was 14".  Compared to other areas, the antelope were not huge, but very plentiful.  Decent bucks are out there, you just have to find them.  My dad's shot was under 70 yards, and mine was about 40.  Don't let anyone tell you that you can't get close to these goats, it just takes a lot of time, SLOW movement  and PATIENCE.  Make the most out of your hunt, there are plenty of pronghorns, you don't need to step out of your truck and shoot the first one you see standing 20 yards off the side of the road.

I hunted area 101 &134 with two others.
(non-guided)
we all passed on some shots the first day .kenny missed a nice four point buck the next day (first time hunter) by the way if you don't like to drive long distance you can fly to salt lake city round trip for about 120 bucks, and rent a 4 wheel drive at the airport it only takes about 45 min to drive to evanston Wyoming. good Luck
