Congrats on your two fine goats caribouhntr. I don't think I've ever seen antelope pics in the snow like that before. Did the snow change your strategies or did you hunt them the same way when there was no snow?

Well...
Day one we heard the weather forcast and it was not
good.Oct 1 was suppose to snow/rain shower on/off
all day.Glassing goats in wind and snow showers is not
the easiest way to hunt. But we glassed hard all day
and found a couple hundred to look at.Towards evening
the weather was getting worst and the forecast was for
@ 5" of snow that night. We found a small group with
a decent buck in the group.John told me if we got snow
we would be very limited in where we could hunt the next
day.The ranches roads would be gumbo.I told Laura she
should make a try for the buck. She agreed and we
worked our way to @ 150-200 yards and she made a good
hit.Goat walked 15 yards, lay down and that was it.
A very nice 13 1/2" heavy antelope.
On our way back to the ranch house the roads were already
getting slick.
Day two sure enough we got snow.John told me,"sorry Jeff
but you are going to get the short end of the stick".
He suggested we hunt the creek bottom right from the ranch
house, atleast we should be able to fill my tag with a "meat
buck",as he did not want me to go home empty handed.
So off we go.And as luck would have it the first group we
saw had @ 3-4 "meat bucks" and the one I shot in it.
Another 200 yard shot and my 15 1/2" meat buck hit
the ground.
Will have to try again, especially with weather like it should
have been. 30/40 at night and 50/60 during the sunny day.
The day before season opened Sept 30th the sun was out
and you could see goats all over.Much better glassing weather.
But a good time was had none the less.
Jeff
