I have not hunted those areas, but according to the state regs, area 50 has difficult public access.

The website also shows that in 2004, that area had 62 non-resident licenses available and 60 resident licenses available - with a 100 percent draw rate for both. My experience is that zones with 100 percent draw rates are those zones that only landowners and their pals apply for... If fact, many of the zones that have 100 percent draw rates, also have an * next to them, indicating 'difficult public access.'

Area 52 issues way more licenses (275 Res / 42 non-res), but lots more people apply for them, leaving you a lower chance of success (77% res, 15% non-res). However, area 52 doesn't have the access problem...

As to a guide... I've never used one and probably never will. I like to hunt the opener, before they get spooked. If the days are really hot and summer has been dry, I'll scout the pre-season for a waterin hole and sit on that in the morning and evening during the season. Otherwise, you can get some good knee-pads and gloves and do the fun thing and stalk the little buggers by crawling and hiding behind what little relief there is out there in the desert...

I have hunted area 50 a couple of times on private land, now that landowner wants way too much to shoot a goat. The chamber of commerce in Saratoga and or Rawlins had a list of landowners that allowed antelope hunting in area 50. If you do your homework you can find somewhere to hunt. If you want more specific info E-mail me directly.

I would never hunt Wyoming with a guide. Just do a little homework like hntinfool said, and should have no problem. All I did was pick the general area I wanted to hunt, then called DFG in that area and asked for a landowners list. They sent me one, I started calling about mid January or so, and found several places to hunt. Some had a very minimal tresspass fee, and others had no tresspass fee. The place we hunted had 77 square miles of land, and more goats then you could imagine.

Here's a pic of one we took of there about 4 years ago, this was the last time I was back there, but my buddies go every year. It really is easy, just make some phone calls first to set up the hunt, and then apply for the tags. Oh yeah, I really wanted a goat, so I picked the areas with the higher draw odds. I really didn't bother too much with the public land, I found too many places that were private that didn't charge anything.

So here's the pic.

And here's one that I took several years ago on my first trip, wasn't big but was fun.

If you're willing to do the private land owner thing, then apply for one of the hunt areas that has a 100% success rate. You can find this info by going to the State website.

http://gf.state.wy.us/

click on hunting, then drawing odds. Makes your decision pretty easy.
