Was up hiking with my kids in Unit 34 NM for elk and since i had already got a hog this year the kids wouln't let me carry a rifle.

My youngest was carrying a .243. We were in some pretty thick stuff and my 13 year old daughter whispers that she heard something.
I backtracked, changed directions and worked our way into some thick oak/aspen. Suddenly about 20 yards from us we see a boar feeding in the undergrowth towards us. My 9 year old as quietly as he could jacked a shell in and took a free hand shot.

The pig took off right towards us still not knowing we were there. About 10 yards away he veered off and Zach took another quick shot at him. It was almost dark and between the 3 of us we figured out the blood trail that was about 80 or more yards thru some very thick brush and grass. My kids did a great job of finding flecks of blood on grass which is hard even in light conditions.

We found this hog and after a long drag got him home. Zach was pumped as he has been practicing his shooting and had missed a coyote at about 40 yards a couple of months earlier. I was real proud of both of them. This is the largest hog we have got up in these hills and I bet he is pushing 200 lbs.

All you unit 34 elk guys make sure you are looking for hogs also when the season comes.

I can post some pics if i can email them to someone that is a little more computer literate than I am.

Paul, you've truly moved to paradise.

I've been reading about hogs in New Mexico, but didn't realize you were right there with 'em.

Elk, mulies, and hogs... what the heck else could you want?

Very cool of the young hunter too, by the way.

First Thumb for the young marksman, second for sis', and third for their father, who made it all happen.

Yep Rancho, I did not cape it and now having some regrets.

I will for sure do a european of the skull, but, it does have nice colors and Russian features that are a little rare up here. He is only 9 so I am hoping he shoots another to put on the wall.

We do have it all up here except fishing.

My kids really made the difference on this hunt. If it wasnt for my daughters ears we would have passed right by.

They also did really well finding tiny flecks of blood in low light conditions. I was impressed.

A euro will be cool...Get him on another, and you take care of the camera. It seems like that deal is working out pretty good.

Wow, That is awesome! Huge pig.

I'm with Speck, I've heard of them out there too but never any confirmed kills. What do they eat out there? Is the population expanding? Man, that is cool.
